Harley Orange?
« on: October 14, 2007, 09:25:59 AM »

I would like to paint the "Screamin Eagle 103" on my jugs (that sounds so wrong) to match the "103" paint on my cam cover...

Does anyone know what part number the paint may be, and what kind of prep I would have to do to ensue it doesnt peel off?

Sharpie will work great I've used it on mine you will need to touch it up periodically. If you want something more permanant you can use Chevrolet high heat orange paint I believe that will match up good.

Harley makes the touchup paint in two different media...The Tire Lettering Pen, which is just the Harley Orange touchup paint in a paint pen, is part #98619.  The little half-ounce bottle of touchup paint is part #98600NZ.  I've used them both and they are both the same color...Harley Orange, also called Racing Orange and Screamin' Eagle Orange.

Take a look at this thread - My latest mod (cost = $1.29 + tax) to see what the Sharpie application looks like.

I went to the auto parts store and got High Temp. engine orange, sprayed it onto a paper plate and then brushed it onto the engine with a small hobby brush. It has not dulled in the 20,000 miles it has been there.  Dave

Exactly what I did, except mine is in red.

Well... Sharpie wasn't as cheap as I heard, you have to buy the orange in a pack of ten, cost went up to $9.00!

Put mine on, but can forsee it peeling off... going to wait till later and use the paint route instead.

Murphy
I was one of the first to do this and I had found a can of high heat spray paint. Been a good 3 years and still looks good.  :2vrolijk_21:

I had trouble with the Sharpie fading, so I used the regular touchup paint on mine.  Had it on there for two years, and was still on there when I sold the heads.  Easy to do too with that little brush that comes with the little touchup bottles.  Seems like I remember I had to apply a couple of coats.

The Sharpie does fade, especially on the rear (hotter-running) head.  I usually touch it up after each wash of the bike.  One thing about it, it only takes about 10 seconds a head to do with the way that felt tip is shaped.  I am too nervous about using a brush and my eyesight is getting worse for detail work like that, so I plan to keep utilizing the Sharpie method for awhile longer.
