S&S ANNOUNCES CHIP ELLIS SETS NEW AHDRA RECORD
« on: October 22, 2007, 08:20:03 PM »

Ya'll know I love drag racing. Here's the latest from S&S. I just love seeing our American V-Twins breaking all the records, as this sport's been dominated by Japanese bikes for years up until recently. I'm glad to see American machines have taken the sport back (for now anyway)! :2vrolijk_21:

LA CROSSE, WI (October 21, 2007) S&S Cycle announces Chip Ellis, on his DRAG Specialties/S&S/G-Squared V-Twin Pro Stock bike set low ET and MPH records for the 1/8th and 1/4 mile at the Rockingham, North Carolina AHDRA event.

Chip Ellis took ownership of the track and used his time there to run some amazing passes that broke records for gasoline powered v-twins in the AHDRA. Riding his S&S 160ci Pro Stock powered machine, Ellis made passes at 6.880 at 191.57 mph and an amazing 6.879 at 193.07 mph!

"We ran pretty good, "said G2 crew chief and co-owner George Smith. "The atmospheric conditions were ideal. It was dry and clear and didn't get too hot. The track was tight and we weren't spinning down track at all. Frankly, if we'd run any less than that, I would have been disappointed. George Bryce, Ken (chief mechanic Ken "Big" Johnson), Chip, and I were able to work together and experiment. We also tried some improved parts that the S&S guys provided and we were able to experiment with the tuning of the bike. The engines made good power and Ken did his usual flawless job preparing the bike. Chip was surging well on the launch. We were able to run a couple of 1.06 sixty foot times. On a non-NHRA prepared track, that was really satisfying."

Rockingham Dragway, known as The Rock, is considered the most motorcycle-friendly strip on the planet and Ellis, a South Carolina native, has plenty of experience there. The G-Squared team used the AHDRA event as a way to get in some practice during the almost month long lay-off in the NHRA season. Las Vegas, the next NHRA event, takes place in a week (October 25-28, 2008) and is a favorite of Ellis, since he has won there twice.

“Whenever you race, there is an element of chance,” said S&S president, Brett Smith. “This whole year has had its ups and downs for Chip and the G2/Drag Specialties team and I’ve been telling my dad their all doing great and they just need to stay the course.” Smith went on to say, ”Well what they did in Rockingham is proof that they are doing the right things. I think they are peaking at the right time and as far as I’m concerned anything more than what G2 has already accomplished with their own team and all the other teams they support is icing on the cake!”

Times and speeds like this from Ellis adds plenty of fuel to the excitement centered on the upcoming NHRA events. With just two races left, there are three S&S-powered machines in the top four positions. Chip Ellis, Matt Smith or Peggy Llewellyn all have a solid chance at taking the number one plate in the NHRA Pro Stock motorcycle class this year, so be sure to watch both races—or even better, get to the Las Vegas race October 25-28, 2008 or attend the season finale in Pomona, California, November 1-4, 2008 and see who walks away in the top spot.
