Now ! How many miles on your 110ci '08 ?
« on: October 29, 2007, 10:37:02 AM »

It seems that the '08 have less problems on the engine than our '07.

The last year, at the same period, we spoke about noises in the head (clearance for the springs)
and the very high heat.

Later, in April, it was the beginning with head gaskets, crank runout, pistons and cylinders.

Is it a real improvement between the '08 and '07 ?

Just over 4200 on this '08 110 SERK. Installed SE roller rockers and forged supports at about 1900 to quash some of the looseness sound from the top end. No rev limit runs, very conservative. About 7 oil changes with filter in the engine. ---fingers crossed but still in warranty. So far so sweet!

Just over 2600 miles on our CUSE3. No problems and runs strong. Bone stock for now. Not sure if it's running too hot, but sure seems that it's running cooler after the 1000 mile service. The top end seems loud, but I had a metric bike before this, so it just might be the nature of an air cooled V-twin. So far, so good.

Not many replies but it's probably normal because the bikes arrive in the shops now !

Thanks

Only 1100 miles so far.  Still smiling!  Only minor problems which I hope will get fixed at the 1K:
Throttle grip sticks occasionally
Cover does not fit
Antenna fell off while trying to put the gd cover on.

Bike puts out a lot of heat!  My right leg is always hot, even in cool weather, so I added kuryakin mid-frame heat shields - much better but still hot!

5000 miles and the rear head gasket is blown! >:( Smells like OIL burning after accelerating and the throttle is sticking. LOVE the bike HATE the heat from the engine. I'll be looking into making some changes to cool her down.

Hi Jacques,

6000 Miles in 6 weeks.  No leaks and the top end noise as actually gotten quieter.  It was a little loud when I picked it up but by 2500 miles was as quiet as my '99.  Haven't checked the crank runout.

Best Regards,
J-Carr

About 6200 miles, lost oil pump at 12miles HD replaced parts, 2050miles developted vibration & engine would regularly run at 300-340 degrees HD replaced motor.  At 2500 miles went to freedom and had cams,SERT, and elite D pipes installed.  Bike runs great and temp are about 190-220 degrees.  Still have some lifter niose.

Our 08 CVO Ultra runs around 240 degrees in 70-80 degree weather.  Heat from the engine is present and barely tolerable.  Bike is 100% stock right now, less than 200 miles on her so far.  Haven't had much time to ride since I got the bike.  Eventually I'll have look into true duals, mufflers, SERT and A/C to cool the bike down.  Not looking to squeeze evry last bit of HP, just a smooth running richer mixture and cooler engine temps.

6000 Miles! It's good for a feedback !
Sorry for you mr_magoo and Gregory.

After the differents answers, it seems that the '08 have less major problems than '07.
After an official letter to HD France,
Friday, I'll start a discussion with my dealer for the replacement of my '07.
The choice for a '08 is probably a better choice than to stay with mine.

Surely, my dealer will propose me to repair my engine, to dismount all my bike for the rust on the welds of the frame but without an official recall of HD, this model is marked in Red on the used market.

I'll inform you later.

Best regards

Jacques

2600 miles here. With SERT, RHTD's and SE A/C oil temp (via HD temp gauge) dropped from 220-240 to about 195 (Fahrenheit) but top end seemed to get louder after Dyno. Need more miles post dyno to get a better feel but am a pretty happy camper so far. Was hoping for better numbers off the dyno but will settle until I can find a top notch tuner. My chart is posted here if interested.

3300 miles in 2 months.  Picked her up 8/31. Installed oil temp in crankcase (not the oil lines). At 80 degrees ambient, it runs about 210 degrees doing 80 mph on the freeway. At 50 degrees it runs about 190 (freeway).  In slower traffic (at 80 degrees ambient) it runs about ~230 degrees.  I've done service at 1000 and 2500 miles. No leaks yet. Top end seemed noisy at first but got quieter after putting on some miles.

I like this motor!....(knock on wood) :2vrolijk_21:.
