I thought you'd like the '05ishness.  :P

:indian_chief:

I really do like that homage to 05ishness, sure do.  But it's far more than simply homage.  That's a profound and beautiful raising the bar all by itself.  Very nice indeed.

Or this one.  I think they can do matching fuel doors also.

And here I thought I was being all coordinated by getting that sissy bar pad bracket that kind of resembles the tank console. Now you come up with something REALLY custom. I'll wind up getting it back on the road and taking it over to them to see what other little touches can be done.

Whatever you do Chuck; it's gorgeous :2vrolijk_21: .

Thanks Don. ;D I'm very happy with it. They did catch a buffer wheel on the inner fairing and burned through the candy to the base, so they get to do those pieces starting all over. Figures, the toughest pieces to do and they get to doo them twice.  :nixweiss:

Chuck, have only ever seen three pieces of their art in person.  All were really sharp.  A special look indeed.  Trouble with two of the three was they looked simply out of place against "standard" paint jobs.  The parts stand out from the bikes without complementing them.

From that first image of your tank from 3/4 above, however, I thought of their stuff and your tank in combination.  The paint effect to the dash is the obvious first option.  But if the Iron Glass work floats your boat your new paint work is one of the few I've ever thought would be a true complement to those parts.

That's too bad Chuck.  The inner and outer fairings were pieces I was looking forward to as much as any too.  The descriptions have had me waiting with great anticipation.  If they all stand as equals to the tank you've reset the bar :2vrolijk_21: .

What did I learn with my first custom paint job?

Do test panels first. The final product was a total surprise to me. Seeing it mid-process only confused me. If you like surprises, pay for a good painter and let him go. I played a part in it, but was still surprised in the end. I was hoping for a bit more contrast from the top graphic spears, but we lost some of it from using so many coats of candy to get the deep red.

It was a learning experience for everyone as this was the first FLH they've done end-to-end. We should have gotten more, read anything, in writing up front so we wouldn't be arguing about who pays for the candy when both painting parties thought the other party was responsible for it.  :nixweiss:

It wasn't a perfectly smooth experience, but they NEVER are.

In the end, the shop did an awesome job in getting me a paint job that I love.  ;D

When I got there, they were just getting into the final wet sand after the second coat of clear. The problem was the gold stripe is actually the base coat which was taped over for all of the other coats. After laying down 13 coats of candy there was one hell of an edge they needed to fill. It's taken them a good bit of time to clear, sand, clear, sand then buff the pieces with the graphics.

Here's a pic with the old label dum-dummed onto the tank. I think I'll wait until the bike is back together for good before sticking this one on, just to make sure it goes on level.  ;)

Looks good Chuck!
But that new wooden frame is going to need a lot of work to look as good as the rest.
