Twolane, I was thinking about putting the black crash bars on the back that Harley offers...Have you or any other member seen them?

Thanks TwoLane,
When you laid the bike over how much damage to the Bags occured?
Do the bars keep the bags rear outer portion of the bag from dragging?(assuming the bike is,  Oh this hurts to say, lying on its engine guard and rear bag guard)?  I've never seen a SEEG laid over, and I hope I never do ...

LeRoy.

Leroy, on a low speed (10 to 15mph) fall (slide down on low side) the bag guards and engine guards will protect the bags totally.  I've witnessed this more than once, but higher speed falls and other type of falls other than sliding down are not so forgiving.  Now, I don't know what the lowers will sustain 'cause I have not witnessed a bike w/ lowers in that type of fall.  But, yeah, it makes a great case for installing the bag guards for low speed lay downs. Hey Le Roy I want to welcome you to the site!  You got a beautiful state up there......rode through it on my way back from Milwaukee (via British Columbia, Wash. and Oregon).  Ya need to go post your pin in the members map so that Montanna is represented.

And what's happening with Idaho and Maine???

LeRoy, just picturing it as well as can be it seems like that glossy black bar is going to be a hot item on your Pumpkin.  I really like the idea and I certainly wouldn't have ever thought of it doing it on my own.  I tend to be one of those "never met a piece of chrome he didn't like" kind of guys.  Be sure and post a pic when the bars are on.

When that Road King and I went a sliding nothing behind the rear crash bar got damaged.  Even the muffler was ok.  The White Brothers mufflers aren't the biggest outside diameter pieces in the world; so something different might have scrubbed.  But while the bar itself actually ground through to its middle it held everything up.  Was actually pretty cool looking it all over afterwords.

One thing just thought of.  Those saddlebag support bars you'll be changing to be to mount your new crash bars are also already a glossy painted black.  So the little bit that you'll be able to see where it runs around the back of the saddlebag and bolts off beside the rear fender will continue your black theme.

I was thinking pretty much what Twolane wrote, in that the difference in the SEEG and the Ultra was pretty much a CB that my Ultra riding friends say they might have used once or twice since they bought it and rear speakers which they say they can't hear. Other than that, unless I am missing something, since I never owned an Ultra, that leaves the king tour pack which is easy enough to install, and some fender lights and bumpers and such, which if you wished could be put on easily enough. Someone enlighten me on what I am missing that would make me want to trade for an SE Ultra. Actually, I was under the impression the the SEEG was basically an Ultra trimmed out in more casual attire.  [smiley=laugh.gif]

I had three Classics before I got the Ultra and two since the Ultra.
The difference between the two I believe are listed below,

1) CB radio,, I actually spent the 90 bucks for the micropkone but never used it.
2) The fairing lowers,,, I took them off in the summer anyway. Always used the detachable ones on the classics.
3) The extra lights on the tour pack. This is a good feature.
4) The intercom feature. Never wanted to talk to someone so bad that hand signals       didn't work.
5) Rear speakers,, If she couldn't hear the speaker from the front I just turned them up.
6) Cruise control,, An absolute must! Had it on the 2000 and have it on the 2003.

And last but not least "PRICE"

An Ultra is about 3000 more than a Classic.

So give me the cruise and the rest I can do without.

Don't share the wish for CVO Ultra....IMO, we got the best parts of an Ultra on ours....I like the lowered SEEG handling much better, bigger engine rocks, and I got all the creature comforts I need for the long haul.

OK, maybe if all the Ultra CVO's come with Hubbards 120" and 6 speed, ya might find me looking at one real hard... [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I want a CVO Ultra with out the lowered suspension. Im tired of draging the kickstand and floorboards around curves. I like the pretty chromed lowers, the fancy red  paint the floating rotors and the torque of the 103 at 85 mph on the Hyw.. But I really would like to have a functional suspension travel and a comm center the Ultra comes with. Riding at Hwy speed for 500 to 600 miles a day is a lot more comfortable with a headset to listen with, and a radio to talk to other rides with that have spread out over a mile or two on the Interstate . My CVO is ok for me on local rides but Im looking to buy an Ultra very soon to  install a big motor on. Just never owned a Harley I could not leave well enough alone.
Just like I thought choping my 62 pan in 78 was the thing to do.

This discussion has gone into the area of perspectives........an old guy on a chopper, a young one on a bell & whistle cruiser........they're all good!  Just depends on where you are and what you want.  No one cycle is the perfect bike for all occasions, and a compromise is just that.  I put another 200+ miles on the SEEG today and I'm still grinning.  That's the proof for me.......how big the smiles are.  Not one thing about it I would have changed today.  We'll see about tomorrow.
