Friday I was towing the Donzi with the F-350 to a tournament in Va Beach Va. There is an Expressway in Chesapeake, and I decided to not take it and fill up the boat with fuel at a gas station on Hwy 168. After filling up, I pulled back on 168 and accelerated hard to get up to 55 mph.
At 35mph I noticed a little white car coming up on my 6 very fast. Next thing I notice is the little white car passing me in the turn lane. As soon as she passed me, by now I am doing 50 mph, she slams on the brakes. Now the truck and boat weigh over 22,000 lbs and her Toyota Corolla weighs what....3500 lbs.....this is not going to be pretty. If you have ever slammed on the brakes while towing a large load, it doesn't stop real quick. I was on the brakes so hard that the truck was actually bouncing.
At this point all I could see was the top of her car. I knew that I was going to kill anyone in that car. For some unknown reason that I can't explain, I only hit her so lightly that it didn't even scuff the paint off her bumper. The girl gets out of her car and walks with athourity to read the license plate on the rear of my truck. As she walks past my window she yells out my plate number. Charlie, who was riding with me says now that girl has a problem.
Now I since I have pulled off the road behind the Corolla and call 911......in which I was put on hold for over 5 minutes. REALLY!!! now I tell the dispatcher what happened and she sent out a patrol car. When the 2 officers arrive I tell them what happened. Then they go up to the girls car and talk to her for a few moments.
I tell Charlie,"since I nailed her in the ass, I am going to get f*cked". Not looking good for the home team. ha ha
The police officers walk back up to the truck and hand me an accident report. The one officer tells me that the girl admitted to illegally passing me and she said " an amimal ran out in front of her is why she hit the brakes".Well the officer informed me that in Va if you hit the brakes because of an animal, then you are not in control of your vehicle anymore, and are now CARELESS AND RECKLESS DRIVING. Any accident that occours while C&RD is your fault. Animals in Va do not constitute a danger to vehicles and you should just hit them.
Now Charlie and I never saw any animal and told the officer this. He said that he believed that the girl was lying but it worked out in my favor and don't worry about it. He then proceded to the girls car and handed her a Careless and Reckless Driving ticket. Oh man if I had my video camera, sparks were flying. After a few moments they come back to my truck and say that I can pull out behind her. I asked if I could pull out first, I didn't want to be behind her again, so they let a few cars go between us when they let traffic go.
Morral of this is....never tell an officer that you were trying to not hit an animal, just tell the truth.....I want the insurance money

ha ha
actually this is a true story
