Oil Filler Spout & Chrome Oil Vent Line
« on: December 04, 2007, 09:44:48 PM »

On my new to me just purchased 02 FLHTCSE, I want to put on the complete chrome oil vent line and replace the partial chrpme, rubber one installed ont he bike now.

I noticed the Oil filler Spout has a 90 deg fitting on top where the rubber hose fits on to and below that sort of on the back side a plugged. Could I simply remove the barbed top fitting and plug it and insert the fitting in the lower opening and attach the chrome oil vent fitting to that, or do I need to purchase a different Oil Filler Spout, if so would any one have any idea what the part number would be. Have a few thoughts from the accs. catalog.

I also noticed when I took off the Oil Spout it had an apprx. 1/4" thick spacer between the spout flange and the transmission housing, looking in the FLHTCSE Parts Manual this spacer is not shown, adder it has a Baker 6 Speed Transmission, I am thinking this may have been installed to bring Oil Spout out from the tranny housing.

Thanks in advance,

Leo, I don't know how the Baker might have changed things.  If it will still accept the HD one piece oil line it is 33111-02.

2Lane,

I'm not thinking the Baker changed anyting it's just odd to me to see a spacer between the Oil filler spout and trans housing.

I do have the 33111-02 Line, however I am puzzled where I should put the fitting, looks like the only place it will fit would be the bottom of the spout and then block off the opening on the upper end of the spout were the 90 Deg barbed/threaded fitting was.

I hope I am not losing my mind over this.

In a normal install the fitting originally in the fill spout is removed and replaced with the fitting that comes with the line kit.  Without seeing yours can't know exactly what you're looking at of course.  See if this helps:

I think you making it harder on yourself then it should be. I added this to my bike and did it all in one day. :shocked2: Everybody knows I'm no mechanic, and I didn't loose any parts or say in bad words. ;D I think I was somewhat disappointed because it only took me one beer to do it. :huepfenlol2:

Guys,

Thanks for the suggestions, I removed the 90 deg Barbed by threaded fitting were the rubber line went inot. I then loose fitted the fitting from the line into the spout and loose fitted the spout on to the tranny. It seems like it will work.

I know have to find a plug to fill in the drilled and tapped portion were the barbed fitting was. See attached pic.

One other thing I still can not figure out, why is their a spacer bween the oil filler spout and tranny, see attached pictures.

Alos the part number for the oil filler spout si 62431-02 where as the part number, out of the supplemental 04 FLHTCSE Parts Catalog is 62454-02A, what gives, did the prvious owner for some reason change thsi spout?

I believe I see where the confusion was. That 90 degree fitting is not stock. Originally the oil return would go into where that blind cap is on your spout. I blew up one of the pictures of your bike from the thread in the SEEG board and I can see how the rubber line went in now. That is weird how that was changed. :confused5:

That spacer is usually for higher tq after market starters that are a little longer than stock. If the starter was ever replaced, try to find the brand and if not is tranny stock?

Fired00d,

I'm glad I am not cracking up, I do not know why he used this oil filler spout, I am going to plug off the upper hole and the vent line should screw right in.

dsmbagger,

Thanks for pointing the reason for the spacer, the bike has the 1.4kw HD starter, maybe that is the reason for the different than stock oil filter spout?

No, the 1.4 hd starter wont have a need for the spacer. Is the Baker tranny you have a dd6 or Od6. The OD6 will need one of those, not the DD6.

May as well get the Chrome Oil Filler Spout P/N 62470-02 while you got that one off. :2vrolijk_21: Then you will not have to worry about that extra plug, and have chrome. ;D

I have the OD6, I now know the reason for the spacer.

Thanks,
