Ok, the calendar says I am 47, but my heart says somewhere around 17.

BTW, my wife turned 47 today.  She says we will be riding as long I can manage to somehow get her on the bike and as long as my legs will hold me, her, and the bike up[/b][/u].  May have to eventually change my mind about trikes :nixweiss:

Prior to my cardiac episode last spring, the closest you could get me to a gym was when I drove by on the highway or when I dropped momma off for one of her classes.  Now I'm a member along with her and go six days a week (funny how staring the grim reaper in the eye changes your priorities).  One of the up sides of all this working out is that I've found it much easier for my short ass to move and control the bike when riding double.  So I thought I'd just throw this out there for anyone seriously worried about being able to continue to ride into the "golden" years; find the time to work out on a regular basis.  Your heart will thank you, and you may never need to think about that trike.

Jerry

Oh yeah, I'm 57 and hope to still be riding when the reaper finally gets me.

That's not a PITA Comment Jerry. That's actually good advice! At 53, I should think about that myself! ;)

Good advice. :2vrolijk_21: Since my hip replacement I've been going to the gym everyday (7 days/week) and it has gotten to the point now that if I don't go my day doesn't feel complete. :nervous: I'm not in the shape I was when I was a mean, lean fighting machine (USMC), but I'm in better shape then I was before and probably a lot better shape then the average 50+ year old male.

Fortunately, I am not doing too bad for a 47 year old.  I am very much looking forward to my 30 year class reunion next summer.... since I still have my 32" waist (maintained with a low-fat diet to keep the cholesterol down) and can out run a lot of fellows half my age in a foot race. ;D :2vrolijk_21:

Admittedly, I do need more exercise.  Not looking to get the huge pecs and biceps again, just need the cardio exercise to keep the heart in shape.  Heck, I didn't even think about the low-fat diet until the doc told me that my cholesterol was up over 280 - now it is down to around 170 (with diet alone).  No heart problems yet, and hope not to have any until the old ticker beats for the last time.

You'd be surprised what just 20 minutes of Cardio a day would do for you. I do a minimum of 30 minutes on bike when I lift weights, and 40 minutes a day when I don't. Thankfully I've never had a problem w/cholesterol mine usually runs 150 - 160, nor high blood pressure. However my Doc would always fuss w/me about my weight (which he had every reason to, at one time I was 325 +/-). Before my surgery I lost a lot of weight, and have maintained my weight around 265 - 275. I would surely like to loose more, but I'm happy now that my cholesterol/BP are low, and I can eat what I want (granted I try to maintain a healthy diet, but don't feel bad when I get a greasy hamburger w/some fries.. Yummy!!), and drink what I want. I tell everybody I don't work out to loose weight I work out to eat what I want. Cold beer when wanted, and not having to feel guilty if/when I want to eat a bowl of ice cream at night sure feels good. :2vrolijk_21:

It's the booze that gets you.

I quit drinking in March and lost 25 lbs almost immediately... still trained the same way before and after.

I just turned 56 on 10/31. I still feel like I'm in my 20s - mentally anyway. I figure that when I get up in the morning and find myself on the topside of the grass I'm having a good day.
