Brian, the likely place to start (or continue) is here:

National Personnel Records Center
Military Personnel Records
9700 Page Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63132-5100
314-801-0800

Let them send you what they can and then start fleshing out what seems to be missing.  They may not have a lot more than the DD214.  But it's the place to start.

Also note you may find reference to getting individual old records out of the National Archives in DC.  I'm sure things exist there.  I'm sure they service individuals somehow.  My experience, however, has been that if you aren't there and really really annoying right in front of someone or can't claim a research affiliation to a University or other such research entity that free services out of the Archives are beyond what their budget will allow.

B B, start here possibly, the gov site for families to get access to records for geneology and other docs as well.
http://www.archives.gov/veterans/for-families/

I need to send you a journal I got at my dad's memorial from one of the guys he was with in the Phillipines, too long a story for here but I'll scan it and get it to you.

Tells of the times there etc. during WWII

Brian:

this seems like a good site where you might be able to find folks who served with your dad as well
