Harley Really Is Amazing NOT - Paint and Seat
« on: January 17, 2008, 07:50:28 PM »

Applied fro warranty on the Wife's FLHRSE3 for:

Seat Leather wearing off the raised flame on the seat.  Denied for normal wear!  But they warrantied the Backrest for the same issue Worn leather. Go figure

Paint Issue, the front fender the right front gold leaf the blue pinstripe is wearing off and chipping. Denied, account 20,000 miles on the bike and they felt overspray ????? on the rest of the paint. Bullchit!! The bike has been setting at the dealer for a month waiting on the area service rep.

So it is normal for the PAINT to BLOW OFF in 20,000 miles on our Harley's???? Go figure.

Off to customer service and waiting on hold for ever. Oh Boy I can hardly wait.   :multi:

Maybe when the 3rd engine repair is needed I will get there are to many miles on the Bike.  :nixweiss:

The pinstripe should be under the clear coat and therefore not chippable.  Maybe it was touched up at the factory.

Hate to hear of your problem(s).   Seems the luck of the rep/dealer has a lot to do in warranty matters.  If you were unable to meet the rep in person, it's a lot easier to say NO than when someone is looking you face to face.

As business/profits get worse, warranty claims are going to be denied no matter what the item is.  Shouldn't be that way, but it is.

Good luck and don't give up.

Saga continues:

The paint issue after talking to Carol in customer Service indicated it was run up through the Area Rep and Technical Lead at Coporate with pictures. Reported the fender was over BUFFED. No KIDDING and who would have done that.

THE FACTORY

Seat claimed to be normal wear. Backrest warrantied for NORMAL WEAR. No consistent response from HARLEY. Wasn't my fault because of poor design, applying raised Leather Flames to seat too me would tend to promote wear.

I guess they would like us to buy a $30k bike and not ride it.

Carol just called and SAID IT"S A DONE DEAL.  WARRANTY DENIED

Now that your complaint has been up the chain to a factory rep and you have not received satisfaction, it is probably too late to try a different dealer that will have a different rep within a reasonable distance from your home.  You only next alternative is to try working through the HD customer service.  You have to some how - and I can't help you here as I am not good with it myself, but somehow you have to get in a real calm mental space.  You have to be in a quite environment with a phone you can put on speaker so you can do other things that interest you , but not things that you can't just put down when you need to concentrate, cause it is probably not going to be quick.  Call the customer service and they will have to open up a ticket for you.  I am not trying to say it is doom and gloom, just that usually by the time a customer gets to this point they are mad as hell and just not willing to take it any more.  Try to find some inner calm, take a happy pill what ever you need to do to not get mad.  If you are able to use the speaker phone deal you will not get madder by the minute while you wait to talk to someone, and if they put you on hold to pull your case file (you probably have one if a rep has seen your bike) they will be gone awhile.  They type everything up.  I try to be a patient as possible, engage them in idle chit chat while they fill in the blanks on their antiquated computers.  If you can win them over to be a friend, they will call folks for you and do all kinds of things to try and help you resolve your issue. If you are mad, they won't be as helpful.  I don't know if I helped any, but you are out of other things to do if your dealer could not help you and the rep either.  You can also write a letter, but that voice - friend thing will make you feel like someone is listening to you.

I do believe I know how you feel.  Whenever I call ------- You can tell I've called more than once ---- my bike has not in the past had a great track record,    Everything goes well with the call till they get my information open on the screen.  Then every time ------- the person on the other end of the phone hesitates and says Oh!

Oh!?    What does it say about me and or my bike?  Or is it just that there is a laundry list of issues.

I really hope that someone up there in customer service world of HD will actually look close at your problem and you get a solution you can live with.   :-\

You know ----- I've said this someplace else I am sure, in the last 32 +- years I have bought no less than 11 for me and 10 for my hubby brand spanking new vehicles.  Do you know of all those 21 vehicles ------ never, not once ever, did we have a warranty problem.  A couple of times, and I emphasize a couple, while vehicles was in for a service, a recall alert would pop up and they took care of it while vehicles was in anyway, but we have not been stranded on the side of the road or without transportation for a warranty problem.  Now the last two bikes?  Not so perfect.  Not whining, just odd facts.

It does appear that things have changed as the popularity of these bikes have grown. I have owned several HD's over the years. I always told people when asked about the bikes that yea you will have some problems with the bikes, but Harley fixes the problems with absolutely know hassle. In the 80's and 90's in seemed that the MoCo was determined to overcome the negative image of the past of bikes that were always breaking down. The company has seen so much growth and success, are they no longer as concerned about taking care of the customers? I would like to hope that's not the case but more and more I hear of guys with problems that were not resolved to their satisfaction. And of course were all waiting on the oil leak fix that will be a final resolution to our 110 woes.

Mrs. We has some good advice about how to handle calling customer service. Her approach has (kind of) worked for me in the past. And I agree with the part about not letting the area factory rep evaluate your bike until you have taken it to another dealer or two -even if they're not that close to where you live. After my dealer didn't (wouldn't?) recognize or address the problem, I rode mine a few hundred miles and found a dealer who agreed that my bike DID have a problem and they proceeded to do something about it!  :)  :pepper:

It was interesting when I talked to the telephone customer service rep tho, because it was noted in my file that I had "refused to show the problem to the area service rep" or something to that effect. Thank you local dealer... NOT!! My main motivation to not have the rep look at my bike is because once he closes your claim -it's closed!

Sorry to hear your warranty claim has been denied. Maybe next time you can be ready to handle those guys.   :nixweiss: Hopefully there won't be a "next time" tho... ???
