We were able to find gas everywhere by 125 miles but I had to plan it ahead of time.  Sometimes we filled up as soon as 60 miles to make the next 125, except from Furnace Creek in Death Valley.  We wanted to go out past Scottys Castle but with no gas at Scottys I didn't want to push the 186 miles from Furnace Creek to Big Pine so we went out to Beaty for gas and then on to Big Pine.
