Corbin Saddle - Did it change your Riding position?
« on: February 04, 2008, 01:06:37 AM »

I am contemplating the Corbin Dual Saddle for my '08 FLHTCUSE3.  For those who have purchased this seat did it change your riding position?
With that I mean did you remain in the same position?  By the looks of the pics it looks like it might move you back. Any info would be greatly
appreciated.

I put a Corbin Duel Touring Saddle on my 07. I am definitely back at least 1" maybe more. It's better for me cause at 6'3" on the stocker felt a little close. If my wife decides she wants to spend more time on the back I may opt for the bracket to move the tour pak back 2".  Comfort wise, firm but a much better feel.

We measured Terry's 06 SEUC and it reduced the space between the back of the rider's backrest and the back of the passenger's backrest 2 inches.  So the
passenger has a reduced space by the 2 in. I assume it would be the same for the 08's.  Tbone realized the same thing when he bought his Corbin and installed the George Anderson tour pak extension kit.

Mark,

I'd suggest giving Corbin a call and ask them.  There was definitely a difference on the 06 but since the 08 is a completely redesigned seat due to the new gas tank, I'd give them a call to be sure.

The 06 model moved me back a bit, but I needed the Wild 1 bars anyway, so not a big concern in my case.  My BSR is a small woman, so the smaller space for her was not an issue, particularly since I had to move the backrest to a more foward position with a different bolt length to be usefull for me.

The net effect of the Corbin also makes the seat just a bit taller, as the foam does not collapse like the stock seat.  On the 08, I'd check with Corbin, as has been mentioned.

I put a Corbin on my 07,it definately moves you back and i had to have the Relocation Kit from George anderson fitted,so my pillion had enough room. The Corbin is miles more comfy though and i would not hesitate to put it on my next bike.

It looks like Corbin sells what they call a "Close seat" 2 inches closer then the standard dual touring seat. Not sure how much difference this actually makes, but you may want to contact them.

Measurements: Standard Dual Tour:
Rider seating: 13" wide x 16" long
Passenger: 12.5" wide x 12" long
Approx seat height, unladen: 29"
CLOSE Dual Tour:
Rider seating: 13" wide x 14" long
Passenger: 12.5" wide x 14" long
Approx seat height, unladen: 29"

Absolutely moved me back. Probably a couple of inches. I could never run a stock rider backrest, but with the Corbin, not only can I use it, I have to adjust it forward just a bit. Because of the change in seat position, I was able to change my handlebars to a set of Chubby's I really love so now my 07 Road Glide is perfect for me. I can sit back against the seat back with my hands in a really comfortable position, put my feet up on the highway pegs, turn on the tunes and cruise a tankfull of gas without having to move around to get comfortable once. It all starts with the right seat IMO

Spydy...you know the bolt that goes into the bottom of the backrest post?  I replaced it with a stainless bolt about 1/2 inch longer (Lowes), and it put the backrest in a much more comfortable place.  You might have to readjust the angle, but it makes it work much better for me.

OK, TC, that's the part I'm unclear on......didn't realize the 'angle' was adjustable.  When I move the backrest forward, it changes the angle so that the backrest is tilted and not comfortable.....top part only hits my back.  I really need the closer seat on the SEEG, I believe.  Either that or grow taller.  ??? har!  spyder

There's a little allen head visible if you tilt the backrest forward that adjusts the angle, if your's is like mine.

At our age, Spydy, we're shrinking, bro...hate to break that news to you.  But our ears and nose is still growing... ;D ;)  Those aren't the parts I need to grow though.... :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

Yep, that's the only adjustment that I can figure out......is that the bolt that you replaced w/ a longer one from Lowes to move it further forward?  :nixweiss: We must have different backrests, 'cause mine is 'fixed' except for the allen screw adjustment.....it doesn't 'tilt' at all.   spyder

The backrest portion tilts relative to the position of the post with the little allen in the backrest, but on mine, the entire post will lay down flat forward if you push on it...it makes it easier for someone to swing their leg over, or for the passenger to get on/off.  If you tilt mine all the way forward like that, and lift up the cover for the mechanisim, there is a 1/8 or so allen head screw at the bottom of the post which not only holds the post in, but also helps determine where the post is relative to the back portion of the riders part of the seat.  If your post tilts, and that screw is there to hold the post in, just replace it with a longer screw and it should help....IF your's is made the same.  The screw that's in there to hold the post in is about 1" long...I replaced it with either a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2...longer is better, 'cause once you figure out where it needs to be, you can loctite the screw to hold it there if it's not all the way seated against the post.  Does that make any sense to you?  I'll take some pics if you need me to.. :2vrolijk_21:

Yep, that makes sense to me now, Terry.  You've got a diff. model than I do, 'cause mine will not lay down.  There is a screw that holds it in so it will not lift out, but doesn't have adjustment on it.  I think I just need the seat area (and specifically the 'sweet spot' ) to be moved forward about two inches.  Right where the stock seat sits you.  I love Corbins foam and overall quality, I'm just too short for this saddle on this scooter.   :PThanks, spyder
