I have hand loaded for years...not a risk if you use common sense and judgment.  Pay attention to your powder loads and work flow and there is less risk then buying ammo loaded by a drunk Russian (Wolf).

Using a hair dryer can be dangerous if your stupid.

I used to reload when I hunted more.  Usually .308 or .243.




Loading shotgun shells got boring, but they were better than store bought as to reliability.

I agree...I have loaded thousands of rounds.  You just have to pay attention and do your own "quality" control.

Funny how quality control goes way up when it affect you directly, ain't it??  Too bad we can't figure out a way to have every assembly line worker feel the pain from one of it's poorly made products.  I'll bet things would change for the better in a hurry!  Of course, in this case----

A similar split barrel scenario happened to a friend of mine with a 12 GA shotgun.  He said he looked down the barrel and there was a cobweb inside but that he could see that approx. 3/4th of the diameter by the cobweb was still clear so he thought he would just shoot it out.  The barrel split and curled back and went through his hand.  He's my friend but what a bumba$$!
