Mess of wires on Duracell
« on: February 15, 2008, 07:19:44 PM »

Hi There,

Is it just my #601 Duracell or does everyone's look like this mess?

Take a look at the photo and you'll notice at the neck of the frame how I have a group of wires coming from underneath the dash on the tank, rather than coming from under the tank where it should, like the stock Ultra's do.

I don't believe this is the correct way for it to be done, especially since there appears to be enough room to have all the wires under the tank.  If everyone's are the same, I guess for some reason they had to do it that way... If not, please send me a photo showing how your wires are routed.

BTW, can anybody inform me why they do not feed these wires on the left side where they would be less noticeable or even better, why not run them through the hollow neck of the frame similar to the Dynas and make them disappear?

Please enlighten me and please send photos if your wiring job looks a whole lot better than mine.

         Thanks!

          Grizzly

Hi Grizzly, the harnes you ar looking at is the audio overlay harness that runs from the radio to the rear aamp mounted under tour pack. This harness is an "overlay" or additional harness to SE bikes with the advanced audio sysytem with rear amp. The harness is seperate from the main harness and has beeen added as your picture showes. If you ever decide to go to a detachable tour pack you will have to deal with the amp and harness as in my case. I decided to remove the factory amp and harness and instal Hawg Wired amp's mounted in front fairing and Hawg Wired speakers. Much better sound and a cleaner look. Get your wallet ready, you are in for a ride. good luck.

That is what I thought until I checked a EGUC and there are no wires except the ones going under the tank itself... I have checked numerous Ultras from various years including 2008 and none have any wires in the place mine go.

That is why I was questioning if anyone else has the same issue with their '08 SEUC???

Thanks Jim,

Can you ball park me a figure on what it'll take to have a cleaner looking bike with amazing sound?
Do you know if I decide not to spend the money, is there anyway of routing these wires under the tank?

Again thanks, I appreciate it very much.

The cost of the audio upgrade is around $1200 including all amp's, speakers and wiring from HD-Dude on this site. the detachable tour pack was about another $500 including new sissy bar and backrest. have fun.

Grizzly;
Jim (an many others) got the HW equipment from me. It is about 1200 for everything. (300 watt 4ch amp, and 4 speakers).

On the wire issue I have done dozens of these installs and I would have to say that the number of bikes with the overlay harness under the tank is only a very few. Most all are over the tank and under the canopy as yours is.

Thanks Dude,

I'll have to give the HW system some serious consideration which it appears will look after my concern and allow me to really rock as I roll down the road!

Can you give me more details on getting wired?

Thanks!

What you'll need is:
PSC-3004 Amp (75watts x4 channels)
CX504-70 Component Speakers (front fairing)
BT504-50 Premium Speakers (Rear Pods)

Here is a link to this set on HW's website:
http://hawg-wired.com/product_info.php?cPath=49&products_id=79

Another option is the "4 in the face" setup:
http://hawg-wired.com/product_info.php?cPath=49&products_id=80

With this setup you run 4 speakers up front, 2 in the lowers and 2 in the fairing. This setup is best for those that will not have the tourpack on most of the time

With all these products i offer a 10% discount from the proces posted.
