Back on the subject of Lemon laws -I've been thinking about the 20k mileage thing in Wisconsin. Isn't there some BIG bike manufacturer in that state? Seems like I've heard something like that anyways...

Seriously, though, maybe the MoCo has enough political pull to get things "warped" in their favor. That might explain the ridiculously low mileage thing.

My bike would have qualified for the lemon law here in Orygun, but it has to be repaired 4 times in the first year or first 12k miles to qualify here.  ??? I stopped getting it fixed after 3 times because I thought I was in the clear.  ???  And I couldn't see wasting my riding time letting the bike sit in the shop for another fruitless repair attempt. I guess it pays to know the laws in your state to make sure where you stand.

I did call the MoCo to find out what their position is when the w.....ty expires. They said that my bike's problems have been documented so they will still stand behind it. I'm only a little nervous because it took 6500 miles for the problem to show up the first time...  :'( If it looks fixed for a few thousand miles and then leaks again after the w.....ty is expired I don't know if they would really stand behind it or not. In that case I'll have to finally take Hoist's advice and fix it myself -this chit ain't rocket science!!  8) Besides I have a pretty good indie or two in my area that do great work.

Hoveround? Hmmm... do those come in Razor Red?

12,000 miles?  Ridiculous lemon law!

Not sure if HR offers razor red - but there's always that $5,000 custom paint job to get one looking just right - not including powdercoat, chrome, & engine upgrades, removable tour packs, GPS, etc..

If you are successfull on returning bike on 'Lemon Law", the MoCo will make you sign a document stating you agree not to discuss it. Darn, i cant discuss it!

Be sure and check your state before you give up on the lemon laws.  After hearing about all the cylinder problems, I talked to the Motor Vehicle Division in Texas.  They consider cars and motorcyles the same, which is 125,000 useful life.

:soapbox:

Just got my Lil' Mermaid, '07 SEUC, back from the NOLA HD. During her 6 day visit, (last month it was 16 days) the repairs done were:

  • cylinder base o-rings, front & rear (2nd)
  • 'revised' head gaskets, front & rear (2nd)
  • other 'top end' parts (2nd)
  • tour-pak (bad hinge & liner)
  • front turn signals (peeling 'chrome')
  • hand grips (no heat)
  • gas tank 'check valve' (leaking)

Previously, the seat, battery, & fairing switches (twice) have been replaced.
I think there is something I missed, but this lists the main stuff. (I'm positive the front fender is still good  :P )

Cumulative days in the shop is 29, not sure of total $ cost of all the repairs.

The LA lemon law states 4 of the same repairs or 90 cumulative days in the shop, but the state I have legal residence and where the bike is registered (WI) law says:
It has a serious defect the dealer can't fix in four tries, or  It has one or many defects that prevent you from using it for 30 days or more (the 30 days need not be consecutive).

The bike is 9 months old! When I talked to the MoCo corporate office about my case reference #, they seemed nervous when I mentioned the total days at the dealer for repairs.
Then they changed the subject when I mentioned the lemon law statement.

Has anyone had their bike replaced because of the lemon law or is anyone working on it?
Do they replace it with a new model or refund the $$ paid? What about added accessories?   :nixweiss:

Well, dealer delivered her last night at 8:15pm, think I'll put on some miles today and see what else goes wrong...   :drink:

Sure - there are more important things - but - just saying - that's an easy thing to say when it's not your bike...   :nixweiss:
