Dude, you are not talking about riding on top of those highway bars stock position, right?

Kona,
I have the back rest on and the bottom of my feet are placed on the engine guard foot rests. The ones come with the bike. Still setting in the seat with rump remaining in saddle.

lzyboy,

I think that is remarkable, talented and without a single doubt in my mind; a Cirque de Solie act Vegas showroom ready.

I wish I could do that, and live......my best to you...

Order a seaty from corbin.  When it arrives throw oem seat in trash...  :P
You can adjust that big frame framis under the seat assembly to a far back as it goes, didja try that?

I ordered a corbin but not thrown the oem set in the trash, I am goint to try and fit it to my 1970 honda mini trail...

Let me know if it fits! I'd like to try that on mine......

Kona,
I understand what you are saying its a little dangerous, however, I only do it when I have a lane all to myself and traffic is nil to none. I do have highway pegs on as well. I use more than anything else. I'm 5'10 200lbs, still looking for the right position to place the pegs. Well got to go bugle sounds!!!

Finally got around to putting the Mustang seat on. What a difference! I had 1 on my WG, but had forgotten how comfortable they are. Flame seat is now in a nice box in the garage and will stay there. Sorry for the large picture - it seems to take Photobucket a while for the "resized" photo to pop in.

i put a 1/2" spacer where the bracket attaches to the piece that connects by the battery. it gave me enough tilt that it doesnt dig into my back and im 6ft 3.,  you can try that,  put some kind of tape on the fender to protect it from the back rest bracket, so you don't scatch or damage it.

I have pegs simular to what you are using, and trying new postions weekly as well. I really wish there was an angled floorboard not level with frame, but 45 degree slanted in the position I like best: toe on hwy peg, heel on floorboard edge in front. Now that would be exciting....

Yes I know what you mean. I still haven't found the right position yet. Alot has to do with the wind deflector. It was 29 degrees this morning, so I was tucked in nice and low behind shield all the way to work. Down 81 in PA for 30 minutes it got alittle cold real quick.
However, it sure was nice. first time riding in the dark with passing lamps and noticing a big difference. What a difference this bike is compared to my 97 Superglide I used to have. Anyway not to get off track, I think I will try the spacer and turning the seat bracket around.

lazboy, I don't think you can just turn the bracket around. It may require more fabrication than a "turn around". It is welded with brackets for the position it isi in currently. I just think it is a poor design and bad planning by the wizzards at HD MOCO. I'll try to take a picture tonight and post it for review.

I forgot to mention that for anyone considering a Mustang seat - it's really comfortable, but does move you forward an inch or more. I'm 6' and the fit is okay, but I can tell quite a bit of difference in distance to controls.

Now a days nothings is just simple.. I think once I find the best position to place the back rest in I will borrow my uncles pipe bender and give it a tweack.  Run some tests at first....

So, finally I dug into the backrest bracket mod. I was sick and tired of my backrest issue after only 1700 miles.

I decided to elongate the forth hole position which mounts with two bolts to the fender. I had to elongate the center "strap" last position hole as well.

I was operating on the theory that a small degree of change at the base will increase with greater degree of change at the end. Like little angles are big angles yet the same degree at the axis.
Anyway, it worked great until I tightened it down. Because of the curve of the fender, the tighter I wrenched the nuts down, the more it would drive back into the original position, which is what I didn't want. OK, so, using some duct tape to protect the fender from the other side of the bracket, and using spacers made of nylon, the bracket held in the new position, off my back and slightly offset from stock.

I was worried about too much; the seat out of alignment with the hole, the bracket will slip due to the new slotted holes, the back rest won't hold when I put pressure to it...etc. What a wimp I am when it comes to new bike paint and new bike parts that don't have an easy remedy. Well, this was easy enough, and I didn't have to buy a new seat (yet, that is....LePera is 5 miles from here..) and that's a relief for now.

I'll take a picture, post it all today. Stay tuned,,,,

Note the improved angle up and away from stock position.
