I'm not riding up here, but the rental cage is giving me plenty of great ideas for future ventures to this New England state.  I had one such idea today, which was too good not to share.
Before I came up here for this trip, several co-workers suggested having a meal at the Port Cafe, 147 Rubber Avenue, Naugatuck, CT.  Talked it over with others here with me, and we agreed to meet there for lunch today.  Punched the address into the ZUMO and did a route recon yesterday.  Pretty straightforward.  ZUMO took me right there, and I had no idea where this place was.  Portugese fare.  I ordered a plate (which was served in a metal crock) of lobster, scallops, shrimp, clams, Portugese sausage, and chicken mixed with saffron rice.  WAY more than I could eat, but it was really good.  I ended up picking all the meat out and eating that with very little rice.  Good eating.  It's not the most up-to-date looking place.  It could be described as a "hole in the wall," or a "dive," but the food is excellent.  Highly recommended as a stop if you find yourself traveling I-95, Merrit Parkway, Highway 8 or anyother highway within 25 or so miles of Naugatuck.

When I was stationed in Spain (many years ago) they served a similar dish called Paella.  Great stuff!

The name on the menu had about eight consonants and one vowel, thus making it very difficult for a redneck to pronounce.  That's a slight embellishment, as I'm sure there is more than one vowel, but whatever utterance I would have made would have perhaps offended the restaurant staff.  I try not to do that..........particularly to those preparing my food, so if annuciation becomes a challenge, I simply point to what I want.  The ingredients are listed under the Portugese name.  It's a pretty "carby" dish, but well worth the price and the trip.  I'll be back.
