John Sachs

Good to see John Sachs here on the site!

I'm sure he doesn't remember me but one of his bikes was very instrumental in the design and look I was trying to achieve a long time ago.

John brought an orange and black Sportster to the Cabbage Patch in Daytona in the early 90's and I took many pictures of it because of the build and the ideas he used on the bike. As I built my little mountain motor sporty I would look at pictures of Johns bike and change something on mine.

When completed, I raced this bike for two seasons in the AHDRA. The bike ran in what was then called the "U" class which meant unlimited street. Pass after pass, all right around 10.5 @ 132mph. What a blast, I took the wheelie bars off and terrorized Myrtle Beach during Bike Week. Ahhhhhh the good ol days!

Again I'm glad to see John here and look forward to his post!
And thanks John for that inspiration a long time ago!

Chip, I think you should get in that position again on a bike, ride a while then get someone to film you trying to get off and stand up straight. ;D ;D ;D
Hell I'd have to get help and get someone to bring me a walker.

Never did!

And FYI
Stainless steel spokes

Had a lot of trouble finding a tire would give traction traction.

One day I was talking with Don Tilley about the no traction problem.

He said "I have just what you need."

Rain slicks, for road racing

At the time the A HDRA was only concerned that the tires had tread. They did.

Notice in the picture the front wheel about three inches above the ground and my feet curled around the pegs and the wrinkle in the tire.

No 110's and virtual tuners back then, the good ol days!

Remember this?
Used to keep the S&S jets on safety pins hooked to a key ring.

Yes!

MRE with the little tank.
Added a compressor to fill the tank later.
Drop the clutch and bam, bam, bam,       (4 speed)

I'm assuming with a "ignition kill" button also or did it just "hammer up"?
