110 Engine oil leak with pics
« on: February 26, 2008, 04:12:03 PM »

100 plus miles and looks like it is coming from where the exhaust goes into the engine. Any thoughts? Will be at dealership this week.

Welcome to the leaking head 110 club!

Make sure that the dealer contacts Tech Support and get the NEW head gaskets - the solid ones without a part number.

Can't really tell from the pics, but if it is really coming out the exhaust ports, you have really bad seals or a super loose fit on the guide. Make sure they inspect carefully!

The Norton was know to have a porous head and it exhibited something similar.I think the real problem is the overheating.Didn't someone say running hot at idle. Emissions....The mixture is too lean.Air cooled engines that have thin walled cylinders can't take it and hence the walking sleeve. Which in turn takes out the head gasket because it wasn't designed to take the higher temp. Zipper has the modual to bring the mixture more in line with wide range O2 sensors. The mixture in the cylinder should be 13.7 to 1 not 14.7 to 1. If all else fails i am sure there are cylinders that are bulletproof but there goes the warranty. Hope this helps. I have ordered a CVO and am having second thoughts after your forum.

Got a call and they felt like engine valve was where leak came from. Was told the wanted to put about 40-50 miles on it today. Will  know more tomorrow.

Sort of a crappy way to begin the ownership experience with the dealer putting 1/3 of the first 150 break-in miles on the bike diagnosing an oil leak. :-\  Sorry for the trouble you're experiencing.  Let us know what they tell you tomorrow.

With all said and done.. My bike is still there. During the lunch ride, they must of seen some more oil. The word is that it was the head gasket. They had to order from HD one of the new ones. They said not a recall, but had to pull this off the line.. Hopefully I will be back in action...

I'm absolutely amazed that the new 110's coming off the lines don't already include the latest and greatest gasket... :nixweiss: ???
