Boat Enthusiast, HELP Needed
« on: February 27, 2008, 10:59:20 AM »

I'm heading to the vast trough of knowledge here once again.
I'm looking at center console fishing boats in the 30 - 38 foot range, primarily Donzi, Fountain, Regulator, Contender, Intrepid and Yellowfin with either Mercury Verado 300's or Yamaha 350's.
I have had a couple of Donzis previously and really liked them but the local dealer switched to Fountain and the nearest dealer is in St Augustine, 350 miles away. Of course Yellowfin and Intrepid are only factory sold, so I guess service might be a problem with them also.
I know some of you SC, NC and Fl people are off shore fishing nuts and have experience with some of these boats.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I know about boats is what I've heard about the two happiest times in a boat owners life.

The day they bought it, and the day the sell it. ;D

Mark,
Up in Maine where the Atlantic gets really nasty at any time of the year, Boston Whalers rule. You can fill them with water and they won't sink. Maybe you recall the ads they used to run where they cut one in 1/2 and both 1/2's floated .The Outrage comes in a 32' center console model that has a 300 gallon fuel tank and can be set up with two 300 hp outboards. I know a lot of fishemen prefer duals so if one motor goes 11 miles out, you've got the other. I know BW doesn't have the performance rep of some of the brands you've named, but they are one mean tough workhorse of a boat and with a couple of Black Max 300's hanging off the transom will get you around in good shape too.

Just my $0.02

I've got a 1972 Whaler Cohasset 16', predecessor to the Montauk 17' that will be up for sale soon. My grandfather bought it new and kept it at his house in the Keys until he became too old to run around on the flats with it. It then went through my dad who didn't need/want it and I've had it since 1989. Since I moved to Atlanta in 1994 I've had it in the water twice. It's a terrible shame I know.

Anyway, one of this Spring's to-do's is to clean it up and sell it. It's in great shape and has always been covered, if not stored indoors.

B B's right, they're awesome boats.

I had a 2002, model 2850 similar to the one on the web site below.

It was a nice dry boat the could zip over to walkers or west end quickly.

I sold it and didn't take to bad a beating.

Its alot of boat for a lake.

I've got several boats.  And a few submarines too.  They all go in the hot tub for naval warfare.  Some have torpedoes too.  It's very cool.

Not to familiar with the East coast boat we run mainly walk arounds up here in Oregon due to the weather
and ocean conditions. I run a 26' Seaswirl Striper WA for tuna, halibut and salmon from May to Oct.
It's the one thing I will probably always spend more money on than my bike. A boat buck = $100.00

I grew up around boats. Built some small ones by hand with my Dad, owned a few myself and I have to agree with the above. A boat is a hole in the water you pour money into. Still, I win the California Megamillions you'll see me buying a couple. Probably the 32' Whaler tied up to a pier in Portland Maine and a Donzi right around 30' for the family estate on Sebago Lake. Owning a boat like our CVO Harley's isn't supposed to work out on the plus side of the ledger sheet, it's about pleasure. Hence the term " Pleasure Boat "

B B
Now if only H-D Inc would understand it's supposed to be " pleasure motorcycle"
