MJZ-

Duane, Pete, and Brian have all gave you good info..  On a boat, I would purchase the dealer as much as the boat and how well they will take care of you during and after the sale.  Finding good boat dealers is even harder than finding a good motorcycle dealer.

If you want a Whaler, your only prerigged engine choice is the Verado as both companies are owned by Brunswick.  If you want a Zuki or Yammi, the boats are sold with no controls/gauges and a lot of dealer work is required which isn't cost effective.  I also think Whalers aren't what they were before the bean counters at Brunswick took over.

I wouldn't be afraid of any of the O/B engine choices that are available today  (even a 2stroke ETec).

Chief,

When you are ready, if you don't already know about this site;

All things Whaler
http://continuouswave.com/whaler/

Thanks Duane.

Here's the file photo of the boat.

Mine is currently set up with a 1989 Evinrude 88 SPL which is just the 90 without tilt and trim. I've got it set up for running on the flats with the motor set back 4" and raised a bit. Tops out at about 45 running solo. It can be a real fun ride.

I'll post some actual pics when I get it to the house for it's spiffing up.

Here is mine, did a lot a work to it.

I had an 85 merc on it, would do 45 in 3-4 sea!. Blew the crank out an put a 50 Honda on it.
Don't have the speed anymore but do have the Honda reliability, economy and quietness.

Replaced all the teak with starboard too.
I made this page up for the Continuous Wave site. Shows my progress and upgrades.

It is a great little boat, with the emphasis on little.

We were lucky enough for the double happy.  Bought a boat while we lived on Fort Monroe, we lived less than 1/4 mile from the $2.00 to launch marina - we could rent out day slips for $12/day and we loved it for a couple - three/four years.  Then when we moved to Fort Myer ----- too much traffic to try to get it in the water - so we sold it and bought our first mortorcyle.  The day we sold I am sure was a much happier day than the day we bought.

Not a picture of boat, but it looked like this.

I am shocked that the boat acronym hasn't been posted! "B reak O ut A nother T housand" I have had this boat since 98 and I am probably down 50 grand on resale. But have had ton's of fun! Formula 31 PC.
