Well guys, here's my update report on the Monsters after putting over 500 miles on them this weekend.
I'm still not sure if I like the Monsters better than the regular ovals. I'm really in a quandary as to what I'm going to do. I may just put the regular ovals back on to compare. I do know that I'm going to need a re-tune if I stay with the Monsters. The bike just doesn't run like it did before. My wife prefers the sound of the Monsters but I'm just not sure. Bear in mind that everyone hears differently. As for myself I have some hearing lose in the higher frequencies and the lower tones seem to be amplified. The Monsters certainly have a low deep rumble and do not crack like the regular ovals when you pop the throttle. But I can't say they are any quieter than the regular ovals. Just a totally different sound. Coolbreeze wants to hear them next to his SPO's. I think it would be an interesting comparison. About 300 of the miles that I put on I was wearing a 3/4 helmet with face shield. I think the helmet cuts out high freqencies and make the low sounds louder. At times the low deep rumble of the Monsters was annoying inside my helmet. Not nearly as bad when I went helmetless.
My brother-inlaw and his wife rode with us to the SD HOG Rally and he thought the Monster sounded better than my old ovals. The Monsters did draw attention at the Rally and I think everyone that heard them liked the sound. But most people like that low deep rumble. I do too, just not sure I like the overall sound that much better than my regular ovals.
Look guys, I'm only trying to report my feelings and opinions here. And I'm unsure at this point. Like everything else and other mufflers included. Some will love the Monster and others will hate them. I have never heard the SPO's but I have a feeling that the two probably sound somewhat similar. I do know that the Monsters are a heck of a lot better looking than the SPO's. IMHO.
Hopefully there will be a few others on this site that get a set of Monsters and will report their opinions.
