Titles
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:16:00 PM »

it is my understanding, that when you purchase a bike. you go down and pay for tax, title and registration. then they send you the regestration and title with the financing banks name as first lean holder on the bike. so, my question is does the bank keep the title, or do they send you a title with there name as first lean holder? and you receive no title at all?does this differ in different states? I am referring to Arizona.

In Virginia the Lien Holder keeps the title until the loan is paid off. At that time they will send you the title and on it there will be a stamp saying Lien Released with a signature from a representative of the lien holder.

Same in Aladamnbama...no title until the loan is paid in full, then holder sends you the title.

Not in Missouri.  Though it used to be.

Now title is sent to vehicle owner but with lienholder information branded all over it.  When it's paid off you have to submit some form that you've lost years before to the lienholder, get it sent back to you, then send it all in to the state.

That may be.  But it is kinda nice to actually have your title in hand.

Same here in SC.

No title 'til she's paid off. I believe it would be because you could then go to a "title lender" and "borrow" against it if you had a title in hand.

Ohio's the same as the majority.  Lender holds the title and you get a copy so you can get your plates.
