I wouldn't either.  Have you noticed how all those prices that spiked over the past 6 months "due to high fuel prices" haven't really gone back down much.  I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on too many price cuts, but we should see improvement in the stock market as these companies start reporting big increases in profits.

My wife's niece's husband (Derek) has worked for a exploration/drilling company since his return from Iraq (Marine).  He got news yesterday that his company is laying off 60% of their work force at the end of next week -- really rotten news to get just weeks before Christmas.  The company has been drilling like crazy and then capping the wells.

I guess the company is going to set on the wells and wait for the price of oil to come back up 

Eric is a smart kid and will land on his feet.  He will most likely wind up working for one of the contractors at Tinker AFB making about half the $$$... for a while anyway.

Was he working the the land drilling sector?

I have yet to notice a drop in the Deep Water off shore sector.

I feel it may be coming though.  We are drilling in 4500 feet of water right now, and it takes 42 a barrel to break even according to the oil company my company is drilling for.

Drove to Florida and back yesterday, paid $1.48 (Memphis), $1.72 (Birmingham), $1.79 (Destin) and $1.64 (Georgianna).

Someone on the news yesterday said it will go 1.00 a gallon in 09. Folks are driving less and they predict its going to stay that way. I guess that means the taxes are going to go up, so then people will buy less stuff...and the taxes will go up. So    Doc

Any time taxes are going up it means the government wishes to waste our money inefficiently  instead of letting us waste it stupidly as we see fit.  Government is insidious - consumption on gas drops, fuel taxe revenues drop, so to offset, they wish to RAISE taxes.  Idiotic.  Government should decrease since their revenues have decreased.  With gas taxes of $.40 a gollon would be real interesting to see $1 gas - not predicting that one but I have been wrong a lot.

People are not buying as much so sales tax revenues will also drop.  Company profits will as well. Might see deflation for a while instead of inflation & that is a whole different set of marbles.    Mike

Diesel now at about $1.50 a litre. Gas at $1.32 litre.

US Gallon equivalent = $5.70 & $5.00 respectively.

UK tax element = $4.56 & $4.00 respectively.

The government lets the oil companies play with the rest.

The tax you are paying is higher than our total price 

Here in Oklahoma, we are paying around $1.50 for gasoline and I saw diesel for $2.10 a gallon last evening.  Oklahoma is not too bad on the fuel taxes. 

Some of the other states that have a bunch of "tree-huggers" politicians are paying much more for fuel than we are here in Oklahoma due to higher fuel taxes.
