07B Gaskets are no Good????
« on: April 23, 2008, 05:35:46 PM »

Do we have hard evidence on this site that the 07B gaskets that came out in late Jan are worthless and not working?? These are the gaskets that Harley is now using in there production line.

THIS IS GOOD TO HEAR!! LETS JUST PRAY THAT THEY HOLD UP!!! I have seen other post's that they have failed within 250 miles and that is very discouraging. :(

I've only got about 100 miles on mine...so nothing to report, of value, yet.

5,000 miles on 07B and no leaks so far.

Kodiak,

This is very good news, if you don't have cylinder liner problems maybe the new gasket is the cure.

Hate to spoil the party, but I got mine last week and after 1500 miles, it leaks worse than ever.

I've got 3000 mi on mine and no leaks so far.  The dealer tells me that since they've been using the new composite, they've had zero failures.  I asked and "Tech Services" approved a five pount increase in head torque.  Fingers crossed!

When my dealer put on the 07B gaskets it was the second time I had a leak. There was no cylinder liner movement both times.

What is strange is from what I read, the first leak is an annoyance, but after the gaskets changed, the next leak is a gusher.  I could only explain that to mean there is something warped, slipped, etc and the gasket never sets right.
Any other thoughts?

Could be the install process.  If not done correctly, then that's what you get.

Yea, Kodiak had 2 leaks but now has 5K on the new 07B gaskets without a problem. Maybe part of the problem is the mechanic installing the gaskets does not pay close attention to the details during assembly.  :(

I would have thought that gasket replacement should be a really simple procedure, without too many variations able.  :nixweiss:  Haven't picked mine up yet, tech told me he used 07A's and used the old TC torque procedure. Wondering if I should take some of the "Beverly Hillbillies " theme songs along for the first ride. ;D

Did your tech use the 07A's because he didn't know about the 07B's???  Or does he think he knows something the rest of the MOCO doesn't know?   :nixweiss:

I would not accept the bike back without the latest gaskets being installed.  The 07B's certainly seem to have a much better track record of success so far...
