My nephew was involved in a single m/c accident last Tuesday on his way home from work. He "crushed" two vertebrae in his lower back, had surgery on Friday and the prognosis is excellent. Docs do not expect any paralysis! Unfortunately, Saturday AM, he had an embolism. Nurses caught it, pumped him full of thinners and got him on a ventilator and things seemed to clear up. Touch and go for a bit, however. Last update indicated a few days in ICU until he's off the ventilator and the docs are sure there's no further danger of any more clots floating around, then off to rehab for a few days to exercise the legs and the plumbing. I'm waiting for an update from my brother as I write this.
I wouldn't normally post this, but thought you folks would find his job of interest. HE'S A TEST RIDER FOR THE MOTOR COMPANY DOWN IN TALLEDEGA, AL!! He'd just finished a night run of about 70 laps (must not have been on a 110"

) on a "new" bike they're testing. He said he headed home, was tired, got a little complacent and went into a curve too hot. He was less than a half mile from home

. He went to the outside of the curve thinking the grass was a better choice than laying the bike down (almost new 2007 Police Electra Glide), but didn't realize there was a culvert lurking in the dark. He came off the bike, but it followed him. He landed and the bike landed on him. All things considered - he was very fortunate. The busted back and a bruised knee. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery. I'd appreciate you folks keeping him in your thoughts and prayers. He's a good kid (with a GREAT job!

).
