Rider's Backrest on a Comfort stitch Seat.
« on: May 21, 2008, 11:46:31 PM »

How much adjustment is there on the stock rider's backrest? Last year I switched to a comfort stitch seat. The stock rider's backrest sits too low, even at the top hole setting. Is the bracket under the seat capable of being raised to make the rider's backrest fit better? Is there more than one under seat bracket? I could remove the seat to see which hole the bracket is using now but thought I would ask here first. What's the scoop?

I had just a little trouble with mine. I ended up buying the matching backrest (and passenger backrest) to solve the problem.

Thanks, I was afraid that was the case.

The comfort stitch is a lot thicker. I could get the stock backrest in, but it looked kind of silly, stuffed down inside the seat.

I like the looks of the Comfort Stitch seat. What is the level of comfort
compared to a corbin or a sundowner seat?

Having both (and several other seats)....I can answer that.  On this bike and my last two Ultra Classics I used the Comfort Stitch seat.  Initially, it is by far, the most comfortable.  However, after hours in the seat you'll start to get what is commonly referred to as "monkey butt".  That can manifest itself from just plain uncomfortable to actual pain on the pressure points, sweating, etc.

The guys on this site finally talked me into a Corbin seat (I just couldn't figure how such a hard to the touch seat could be comfortable down the road).  Shortly after the purchase, AK, Jonga and I did an ocean to ocean ride.  We were 2/3 the way across the country before I realized "hey, I haven't had any butt issues on this entire trip".  I'd forgotten about it up till then.  Now........I could be a Corbin salesman.  Don't ask me how.....I still don't understand it.....I just know they work.  I've not had another seat on my bike since I put the Corbin on and have actually sold a couple of the other seats that I had.  Still have several more in storage that I need to get rid of.
