Leaking head gasket at 1,100 miles
« on: May 24, 2008, 03:45:54 PM »

Took my bike in for the 1K service.. They serviced the bike and checked out everthing, the head man in there shop doing the work. After paying I walked out to my bike checked it over to find a oil leak at the rear head gasket. Just paid for the service & new oils I know the bike has a MLS gasket on it now. They showed me the new replacement gaskets and they look like crap?? Killed my day but i would like to do cams, pistons, and port the heads. Or sell this motor and buy a Jim's 120. What do you think?

Thanks

There is a fix on the way. Don't do anything till you get a letter form the MOCO. You should hear something in about 3 weeks. After the fix or during you can do anything you want to pump it up.

Be Safe

Hi All    I have been reading all the stuff about the leaking 110  I am a first time owner of a H-D  First bike I have owned in over 20 years   Its a FXDSE  I love it  but also I am concerned about the problems   Is there anything to look for at the start ??  My bike is very smooth  the mirrors don't shake  and they stay clear  no vibes in bars at idle or at speed    so far I have 700 miles on it   It does seem to run warm  But that could be because I am in Mesa AZ   Would adding more fuel to it help ??  Its stock the only thing I may change is to go with a set of slip ons or maybe just a set of Big City Thunder baffles    just a nice growl  not loud   Will H-D be contacing me ?? or will they wait to see if it needs work ?? OK  thanks for any info I can get

If the bike is running good, don't worry about it.

Sit tight for a couple of weeks. :2vrolijk_21:

Well, it finally happened to me!! All in a single day! Both head gaskets began to leak on Saturday after a short ride, along with weeping at the base of both jugs. Front head gasket is leaking much more than the rear. So, am I understanding this thread correctly? MoCo finally acknowledges the problem and is doing a recall?

No, no recall at this time.  Rumor has it that there will be a "fix" announced within the next three weeks and letters will supposedly be mailed out to 110 owners about what to do.  Not sure if it will constitute a recall or just be a good customer relations deal by the MoCo.  Whatever it ends up being, it will be all good as long as it solves the problems.

Is this letter going to all 110 owners or just people who have reported having a "leaker"?  :nixweiss:
Or did the MoCo START their own rumor to give us a false sense of security?  :drink:

Good question...nobody knows for certain.  The limited information about the fix was put out by another site member that supposedly has a "person on the inside".  Just wait around for 3 weeks or so and see if anything comes about this.  All I know, is I hope whatever it is, it fixes the problems.
