About 21 years ago, I can remember sitting in my doctor's office listening to my ob/gyn tell me that they suspected my first born child would be born with Down's Syndrome. All tests and ultrasounds pointed to yes, but no one could tell me for sure. My choices were wait and see or terminate the pregnancy and try again for a healthy baby. I decided it was not my place to play God and I decided I'd let him take care of the situation. After a pregnancy filled with complications and a premature birth due to pre-eclampsia, I gave birth to a 5 lb. little boy. Yesterday, I watched that little fella walk across stage and receive his 2nd diploma. This was a momentous occassion for many reasons! First, Justin attended Furman on a full academic scholarship and had to work hard to maintain his GPA to keep his scholarship, he wanted to do well in order to go on to grad school, he's already been accepted to grad school and he has a graduate fellowship at Clemson, and President George W. Bush was giving his last commencement address as President at Furman University. (That came with frustrations like more security than most airports, men in black suits and earpieces that don't seem to understand "handicapped" really means "handicapped," and having to be at the stadium at 4:15 for a 7:30 graduation!) I think I was happiest that my mom was able to make the graduation ceremony. Justin's other grandmother has Parkinson's and was unable to attend.
Anyway, being the BEYOND proud mother that I am, I had to share these photos with you guys!

Ok, so one down, three to go!
