Each dealer - auto or bike has a different "MSRP" vs invoice.  Car dealers get substantial rebate checks which can bring their gross profit in line with the 15-18% or so that Harley (and other bike makers) get.  If dealers do not make money, then the point of their being a dealer is moot, considering.  Some dealers take advantage of geography, and that sucks, but that is their marketing plan - screw ya if you are stuck buying here.  They ain't gonna stay in biz if they are netting 2% (after tax on 4-5% gross).

Sure I shop & sure dealers differ in price & some are freakin' insane price wise (Daytona for example).  They are going to make a profit.  If a dealer has $3-5 million or more invested in a store, he is going to expect a return on that investment or he will just play the stock market or something else instead of selling fancy painted pressed steel on 2 wheels.

Amazing the differences in people with a lot of money. Some got it by being tight as clams and you can't pry an nickel more out of em then they feel something is worth. Other's came by their money by other means (easy?) and seem to think that if you don't pay a bunch for things they're not worth anything. I was watching the idiot box one time and they got talking about 1,000 thread count sheets. The celebrities on the show were saying they were paying $1,200 a set for Egyptian cotten 1,000 TC sheets. I didn't know what the hell they were talking about, so I did some checking and decided I wanted some. I paid $179 delivered from ShopNBC for a set. Loved em and bought some more finding even better deals by looking around. So are the $1,200 ones better than my $179 ones ?  I doubt it.

I know I'm weird, turning a motorcycle thread into a Martha Stewart adventure, but hey, boring I'm not.   :huepfenjump3:

Hey BB,  You didn't have to go far for the info on thread count and good sheets..  I posted all you need to know right on this forum a while back.

any way..

My issue is this...   The dealer has something I want, and that I can afford.  But, when I'm spending a premium, I EXPECT (and rightly so), to get stroked and appreciated for keeping him/her in business to provide that service.  What I get instead is crapped on, lied to, and jerked around.   That's where MSRP become way too damned much.    :soapbox:

I'm a fancy gun shooter too...   My gunsmith bows.  literally. (He's japanese and REALLY good)   My gun dealer knows my first name.  And my wife's first name.    and sends me scotch.    I haven't spent over $100k at his shop.  I have at the Harley dealer.  She told me toget my chit and get the f out.  She had more important chit to do...   WTF!

About two years ago, I had a bit of an argument with SD H-D about my discount. They keep very good computer records and I had my purchases in all depts printed up from 1998 through 2006. It totaled over $200k. ( I was buying stuff for all my friends and "helping" them do the installation in my garage ) Included in that figure were 4  new bikes and two used. End of argument( or so I thought) about 6 months later, I bought my 07 Road Glide and a bunch of stuff for it and got some good discounts THEN the owner's son in law took over the dealership GM position. First action was to discontinue discount program to local HOG members, long time customers, anybody / everybody. No discouts Period. Next move was to lay off all long time employees working 40+ hours a week and benefits and hire 2 new employees working 20 hrs / week with no benefits for each postion. New hires paid $10/hr. And that's why now I bounce from Sweetwater H-D to El Cajon H-D or do I-Net sales. Should be interesting when it comes time to buy a new bike. I've been considering buying from my old dealer in Maine and riding it out here (IF there's an 09 SERG, and IF it doesn't have a 110 motor and IF I buy one)

I love this chit. Here's a new member to the forum and he's sayin what we've been sayin for years. So, my question is, how does Mr FB stay in business ?

B B

10 dealerships maybe?  :nixweiss:  Seems like he only "soaks" his customers at Destination DisneyHarley. Lot's of disposable income around there I guess.  Whatever he's doing, he's apparently doing it in the right places.  His sweet "Screamin Eagle" Lear Jet is evidence of that.

So.... Tell Gieco that and see what they say.  They we're a little pissy with me about it when I called, but I explained my situation and what kind of guy he really is in the biking community and the guy on the phone changed his tune and elevated the call....      Maybe we can at least stop cannonizing the guy like some kind of saint...    at the very least, we can smear his greasy name.

We just did the same

For the same reason

I had a post removed because I spoke of the FB's involvment with the M O B and how he did some T I M E  to take the heat of them and how they started him up at the HD Beach Side establishment.  I don't know first hand, but have a lot of family there and heard the story for years.  Don't like FB at all either.
