It rained 6 inches here last night, some towns west and south of here got 9 or 10. I-70 was and is closed in both directions from here. I'm lucky, no damage but there are people out of their homes. Some people were waist deep in yards that never flood. Lots of road washouts all over the area. This will have long lasting implications. There was to be a bike blessing in town today but it was cancelled. Lots of events were cancelled. Most surrounding counties have declared it an emergency and don't want any travel unless it is critical. I have a scanner and the local service agencies have been swamped with calls. Sometimes there just isn't anything they can do about the situation. One trucker went around the detour sign and they had to fish him out, I don't think anyone was too anxious to help him. The agencies were asking for people with boats to help them rescue others. The weather has broke and we are not to get any more rain until Monday. A lot of the local crops have been washed out. It is getting too late to re-plant corn, so they will most likely have to plant soy beans when it dries out. Less ethanol and less profit for the farmers. My daughter works for an insurance company and she was called in today and today is her birthday. Lots of claims. We're taking her out to a local steakhouse, maybe that will help some. We have had a terribly wet year here so far, I am ready for these rains to let up.
