First off, FTF (Fairing this time) and you FD guys still KILL ME! ;D ;D ;D

Yeah we got a late start. Been BSing w/Bean about engines and tuning all morning. We got into the shop and I left to get samiches and more gas. 20 bucks to fill a gas can! Holy crap! :o

Just got done recording yesterday's changes to the map. We're getting close now up to 3 grand. He's analyzing the data now and will be making some more map changes. I'd like to see 1 more recording of the results to be sure we're optimized. Then on to 3500 to 6500. Those will be at 500 RPM increments.

They use a Factory Pro Dyno not a Dynojet. You boys need to do some research on these different Dynomometers. This dyno uses a strain gauge and measures torque and uses a low inertia drum. Dynojet calculates everything and uses a high inertia drum. The factory Pro Dyno produces ACTUAL torque measurements. You'll never see numbers you see on a Dynojet Dyno, but these are real numbers. I'll see by the ass dyno the difference in the tune later.

Check out Factory Pro's site: http://www.factorypro.com/

Letting the bike cool of now, making changes to the map, and get back to tuning in a bit! ;)

Thanks Mike. It's been great hanging out for the entire process. I've been with these guys the entire time I've been here. Dinners, hanging out, stayed on his couch. Nothing but bikes and tuning the whole time. Sure have learned an awful lot in a short time. I'm havin a blast!

Should be 2-3 hours til the big pull. Catch it at home. Still working on the correct tune right now.

Real sticky back the on that rear tire. And straight line only. I'll have to even the sides out now! ;D

Tire, engine, and oil temps have all been excellent. Cybil's hanging in there. I think she loves this chit too! :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:

Howie,
PLEASE when you post your dyno charts, would you include the one with the ET line at the bottom. I know I've kicked this horse a bunch, but that's the sheet that means the most to me. It's the one that tells me IF, or how soon I'd be looking at your license plate.

Thanks

Brian, that's determined by how fast you make your torque. He doesn't have time reports. But you can see everything on the sweep test and WOT report, which I'll be getting. I'm going to ask for all charts he can provide. But the more torque you can make the earliest you can, will determine your quickness. ;)

Howie, I'll say one thing, when we agree, we agree, still, I have to  wonder how they know who quickly you are making your numbers without the ET graph. So the chart jumps almost straight up on TQ and has a nice steady smooth upward curve on HP, without knowing what the time intervals are, you can't judge. The graph could be set up for 1 second intervals, 1/2 second, whatever. Look at UNBALANCED's Dyno sheets that he posted on one of the Dyno threads., You'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

I know what you're looking for, but he doesn't have speed graphs in his software.

But I'm getting ready to test ride it. We appear to be done. My ass dyno should know how much quicker (or slower) it is now. But I'm sure it's quicker. I can feel how much snappier it is now just by cracking the throttle. I'll be testing it shortly. Hope we got the decel pop out at <2500 RPM.

Bean's telling me this bike will fly and get great gas mileage too now, just by looking at the charts. He don't even ride em! I'll let ya'll know what's up shortly! ;)

Brian,

I'm certainly no expert on the subject matter, but from what Howie stated about the dyno utilizing a load cell to actually measure the torque, possibly even in a steady-state mode, instead of measuring acceleration of the drum and calculating the torque, then the time factor is no longer part of the equation.

Well, we're done! Hope you enjoyed the show folks! ;D

The bike is SO much smoother than before! It's not a bucking bronco at low speed, small throttle positions like before, which is important in my NYC traffic conditions. It pulls right up to 6200 RPM as before, but is SO much crisper! I was never one to dislike a little vibration, but any I had at 90 in 6th is completely gone. Overall, the bike feels more ridable. If I gave up anything up top, it's hard to tell. But it's well worth it if I did. My intent from the beginning was to build a rideable performance motor, not a racing motor. I've told ya'll before, ya beat me and I'll smile and shake your hand. But this bike kicks ass now as before, and rides much better doing it than ever before.

We took tons of fuel out of it across the board. It was so fat, it never popped. Now I can hear occasional decel pops at lower loads, between 3000 and 2500 RPM. But with this exhaust you hear everything that motor's doing. A little popping at times and a little gurgling at times, but wouldn't want to change the tune by dumping more fuel in to eliminate it. She runs too good right now!

I'll see how she does on the road going home tomorrow. Very curious to see what all this did to my gas mileage. Bean said he'd be shocked if I wasn't getting at least 40 at normal cruising. Best I ever did was 33.

So overall, I'm extremely happy with the tune. Custom map made for Cybil from a HD base map took about 12-13 hours of dyno time, analyzing, and reprogramming. They spent whatever time necessary and didn't cut any corners. They just want you to be happy with the way your bike runs.

At this point, I'd flat out recommend ya'll get your bikes tuned here. It's amazing when you think it already runs great, and you get it back so much better. It's truly night and day difference except for flat out, which isn't noticeable. To get so much in so many places without giving anything up either is really amazing to me.

I really wanna thank Bean and Springer for all the time they spent on Cybil, for letting me go thru the entire process with them, and for showing me some really great hospitality as well!

And I can honestly tell ya'll not to go by numbers. Not by Dynojet numbers anyway. Mine are nowhere close to my chart posted in the SERK section. But the bike's no slower and runs so much better. I'd rather know the real numbers than numbers from somebody's happy Dyno. But everyone's tuned on a Dynojet. So since I'll be showing ya numbers so much lower that some of ya'll's stock bike tunes, I guess you might say Cybil's numbers suck and must run like a dog. To that I say, SEE YA AT THE TRACK!!! ;)

Howie,

I am glad you're happy with the tune  :2vrolijk_21: , but I could use your help at clarifying some things for me and maybe some others.  After your last tune in Mechanicsville N.Y. at Joe's Cycle,  Joe was the best thing since sliced bread and the tune was fantastic, now after this tune these guys are now the bomb.   Would you still recommend Joe for a tune, as you said he took countless hours to tune your bike in the right temps and humidity and through all the riding rpm's?   I was always curious though how he tuned your rear cylinder with the 2 into 1 D&D, but that is a side question.

Also if the bike runs so great why wouldn't you post a dyno sheet so others that might considering going there on your recommendation have a comparision of what they should expect after a tune on a dynojet, then a tune at Big Boyz shop to put the numbers into the proper perspective.

I know I am interested in what your fuel mileage turns out to be.

Harry, perhaps it's simply a case of two good answers.  Joe more local to him seemed most gifted with the Power Commander.  The shop he just visited did their work with the SERT.  If at least part of the goal was less hardware on the bike (less mounted less to fail) that would be a rationale.  The shop in Maine has a methodology that's different enough it also seemed worth seeing.
