Harry, perhaps it's simply a case of two good answers.  Joe more local to him seemed most gifted with the Power Commander.  The shop he just visited did their work with the SERT.  If at least part of the goal was less hardware on the bike (less mounted less to fail) that would be a rationale.  The shop in Maine has a methodology that's different enough it also seemed worth seeing.
[/color]

Does this mean that perhaps there's a slim chance people might begin to understand some of my skepticism toward all of the big dyno sheets I've seen posted. I took some serious abuse for sticking up for my MAINE way of doing things when I joined the site, now lo and behold, all of a sudden the Holy Grail can be found in MAINE. Back before anybody heard of a dyno, if you couldn't pull a 6" tree stump out of the ground with your bike, it warn't runnin right. We've never put much truck in the way anyone else does things in MAINE. We do it our way, always have, always will whether we're the new Jesus or just a bunch of hicks from the sticks, we go our own way and are damn proud of it Ayuh. The irony of this being brought to the fore by Howie is not lost on me, believe me. I will have a smile on my face about this for weeks

No debate from me on the value of a dyno report BB.  Only thing I use them for in a comparative sense is when they can be done on the same machine to show a before and after.  Aside from that it's a tuning tool to guide toward efficiencies (whatever kind you're chasing) on a given day.  But as an honest to god "Mine is Bigger Than Yours" kind of thing...  Nope.  Across different machines it's not a comparison anyway and that's not how I worry about them running.

Curb racing is fun.  But how the bike reports to the butt dyno is all I really care about.

Don

The butt dyno is omni important.
But if your SERG was as good looking as mine, Hobo's or Scooters then maybe we could talk seat of the pants dyno numbers.
Until it is, we can only discuss the steps necessary for yours to look as good as ours.
But as well as I know you, I hope you know that the three of us place before you a goal that we hope some day you may reach.
We maintain our bikes just to give you a challenge in life!
Besides, what are friends for?

Well!
That would be a good start.

Also if the bike runs so great why wouldn't you post a dyno sheet so others that might considering going there on your recommendation have a comparision of what they should expect after a tune on a dynojet, then a tune at Big Boyz shop to put the numbers into the proper perspective.

I know I am interested in what your fuel mileage turns out to be.

I believe he will be posting a dyno sheet.  The dyno we use (Factory Pro) has some significant differences from a Dynojet.  The entire theory behind these 2 dyno are completely different and not easily explained.  IMO, they do not produce comparable dyno sheets.  This is not specific to Factory Pro dynos either.  Superflo dynos are more similar to the Factory Pro than a Dynojet but the superflo actually has a choice to print (or produce) "DJRWHP and DJRWTQ" numbers.  DJRWHP=Dynojet Rear Wheel HP and DJRWTQ=Dynojet Rear Wheel Torque.  This is a "correction" factor to help produce a more comparable dyno sheet.

I have stated numerous times on several forums that we don't tune for the numbers.  We tune the engines combustion process for what the engine wants to run correctly, HP and TQ are by products and numbers mean nothing as to how an engine runs.  Ever seen a boiler technician tune a boiler?  Basically they tune for CO and HC until the combustion process is correct.  While this is a basic analogy the theory still applies.

All too often people look at a WOT run to determine how the bike runs.  A single dyno sweep showing WOT is hardly an indication of the complete tune. Generally most dyno tuners can get the WOT run to max HP and TQ. Often times we show little or no improvement to the WOT numbers. Our greatest gains are usually in the partial throttle positions, where the bike it typically driven. If we see a gain of say 10 TQ in the 2500, 3000 RPM, 20%, 30% 40% throttle positions, that is power you will feel when you twist the throttle. A 5% gain at 100% throttle is hardly noticeable. The typical comments we here when done is it much smoother, feels more powerful and gets better gas mileage.

I would be happy to discuss the process we use and the differences of our dyno versus an "industry standard" dyno with anyone.  Feel free to PM me and I will send my phone number.

Howie,

I am glad you're happy with the tune  :2vrolijk_21: , but I could use your help at clarifying some things for me and maybe some others.  After your last tune in Mechanicsville N.Y. at Joe's Cycle,  Joe was the best thing since sliced bread and the tune was fantastic, now after this tune these guys are now the bomb.   Would you still recommend Joe for a tune, as you said he took countless hours to tune your bike in the right temps and humidity and through all the riding rpm's?   I was always curious though how he tuned your rear cylinder with the 2 into 1 D&D, but that is a side question.

Also if the bike runs so great why wouldn't you post a dyno sheet so others that might considering going there on your recommendation have a comparision of what they should expect after a tune on a dynojet, then a tune at Big Boyz shop to put the numbers into the proper perspective.

Poppin out of the woodwork to stir the damn potagain Harry! Hmm, some things never change! ::)

Joe did a great job tuning my bike with the PC. But I want an ECM that can control my bike. If that PC crapped out, I'd be on a trailer again, or I'd carry a spare PC. But eliminating it at this point seemed like my best option. Since the bike was tuned on 2 completely different dynos, the numbers can't be compared to each other. From what I've learned these past 2 days, Dynojet numbers can be all over the place. And some have "happy" dynos. Maybe Joe's was one. But the bike ran awesome with Joe's tune. Gas mileage due to richness was it's only flaw in the tune, but it didn't bother me. And you can tune each cylinder w/2:1's by sending the probe from the muffler into each headpipe. As a matter of fact, Joe was the one who recommended installing a SERT on my bike. Since he's not a SERT guy, he was gonna do a so-so SERT tune and then retune it again with the PC back on top of it And I have full intention of posting the dyno sheets when I get home, and also be able to report about the rideability and mileage from my 6 hour ride home. Stay tuned! ;)

Now that I've answered all your slanted questions, riddle me this. Why pop out of the woodwork to break my balls. Still sour grapes about complaining about CR's delays. And I even said Wes' package is awesome on my bike. But since that time you've been extremely adversarial and seem to have some kinda hidden agenda, which I don't GAS about. But if you think you're trying to help others with your BS blindsided assaults in your own twisted way, grow TF up and mind your own business, stick to the facts, and stop speaking in fork-ed tongue! :sauer021:
