Saddlebag Filler Strips:
Slotted/Chrome 45896-98
Slotted/Black 45897-98

Check if you can use them with your Saddlebag Guard Rail, - I have the nostalgic type!

Have always liked those.  Never have understood why Harley couldn't design them to fit parallel to the bottom of the bag.  They always look like the installer was a little drunk.

I was quite sober during the installation, but the temptation to use a sledge hammer to get the rails parallel to the bottom of the bags was strong! The designer should be sent back to his drawing board.

How were you able to get the 3 pouch pockets on your bike?  I have a two pouch unit with a 12" shield and have been unble to get it to fit on top of the dash leather unit..

I am not sure what you mean...My 3 bags fit with no problem at all...They are right from Harley.....What brand do you have?

Thanks classic 45 i have non slotted which of course had to be removed but i thought that the slotted type were designed to fit with the rails in place.

I added the Saddlebag Guard Rails, as Cyril did, but found that by adding Stainless spacers between the filler strips, assisted in getting not only the Guard Rails even with the Saddlebags, but also assisted in keeping the gaps even on the filler strips.

Any problems removing and installing the bags (power lock cables?)

Hi Classic 45,
I will get that done in the near future for you.
Power lock cables are difficult to get your fingers in there and connect, however I find it easier with the Saddlebag Guard Rails, it holds it inplace while you try to squeeze your fingers in there to connect.

Can you give me approximate dimensions on the stainless steel spacers. Did you place them between the saddlebag support bracket and the filler strip?

Hi Classic 45,

I will have to look before I can say.
It has been a while since I did this.

However I do remember having the local Harley shop look this project up.
Their book states that Saddlebag Guards will not work with if you have Filler Strips.
Fooled them again!
