Here is what I get when I put my VIN in HD's website:

There are one or more open safety recalls or product improvement campaigns on your vehicle. The following list contains the campaign number and a brief description:

Product Notice: 0905: PRD PGM: 07/08 CVO 110 HEADS

We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Some product campaigns may have expired and you may have to pay for the service. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details.

Is anyone familiar with a crankshaft bolt issue, or are they maybe referring to an issue I know I've seen mentioned several times on this site, the center crankcase bolt leaking? :confused5:

Do not have the details on this part of the "fix" Jerry but wonder if it could have ANY bearing on the crank runout issues?

Well we've all been kinda irked at this issue, but I couldn't be more pleased that HD has taken this problem seriously and will address is in a fairly costly recall campaign. It will keep me buying the brand!

You mean the long bolt at the centre of the base of the cylinders on the left hand side Jerry?  That leaked on mine (what does that bolt DO anyway??) but I was unaware others had the problem....

Once you lose confidence it's gone.  I had an engine replaced and still knew that it was going to have issues because it was another copy of the same engine.  And guess what, it's leaking.  Even if the whole top end is replaced under this program, I will not have confidence in this motor.  What's the smoking gun here?  The gasket may have played a part, but is it the cylinder quality, or an engineering issue?  All in all, the design as far as bore size in this aluminum cylinder and heat is the culprit, everything else is collateral damage: ACRs, valve guides, etc could all be blamed on extreme heat. IMHO of course!

I'm under the impression that they're changing the crank bolt the holds the compenator on, not the center case bolt. The center bot is on of the bolts holding the cases together Jim.

My SM thought it was indeed the top bolt holding the crankcase together.

WTH's wrong with that case bolt? :nixweiss:

I've replaced all my hardware with 12pt ss anyway, but that just makes no sense at all! I'm glad I did what I did, especially after reading all this! :confused5:

Well. it sure as heck leaked oil on mine!  (WTF is oil doing getting to a bolt - it's sealed with silicone on the threads, guys - just holding crankcase halves together? Things called gaskets are meant to stop that!)

Maybe related to the oil coming down the stud holes where oil isn't suppoesd to be.  Also the cylinder base o rings were change for oil weeping there too.

Since my engine was replaced (7 k miles ago) I have not had one more problem. I attribute this to a very rich fuel mixture, new pipes, aire cleaner, and cams. My mpg stinks but my engine does not leak and runs great !!! FOR NOW :orange:

Ditto, for about 14k miles.  Then started slight weeping in the usual place.  Still runs fine and hopefull will until I can get 'the fix.'
