What Works Well in a 95"
« on: July 05, 2008, 04:16:57 PM »

Am bored and tied a bit housebound for the moment.  For some reason thought of this future project.

As a winter project will put gear driven cams in the 2000 Road Glide.  What cams have people used in 95s before and been very satisfied with the results?

It's a bagger.  So more interested in how hard it pulls than in how quickly it gets there.  Please share any 95" build experiences you've been pleased with.  For that matter would also be interested in things known not to work well either.  Have no interest in reinventing the wheel.

Are you leaving the rest of the engine alone? So stock compression?

Who knows what I'll actually do when the time comes Brad.  But sitting here today my intention would be just cams.  Leaving the rest of it be.  Purely a prophylactic task to be rid of the tensioners and in the process make the best use of the cam change.

Hmmm, didn't I mention this earlier...
Ah go ahead and do it. You can make changes to your stock SERG for safety, appearance, and mechanical performance stability purposes and it still remain stock. ::) ;D....
I hope I didn't plant a seed. :sneaky:  :huepfenlol2:

Doodideas are dangerous things.  The seeds he sows may be for fruitloop trees.  But they can be expensive nonetheless.

Heh, you were forewarned. When I shared my tricks I also shared that it can get addictive. I can lead you to water, but I can't make you drink in moderation. ;D

Another thing stay your butt of eBay until you build a bigger garage. I've got the building inspector coming to look at the load you have on that ceiling already. :huepfenlol2:

Don

The world is at your fingertips.
The most important thing is to remember the limitations placed on your SERG by the ignition system.
Cams are great!
Cams with pistons to add compression is also great.
Cams with pistons (compression) and cleaning up the heads yields the best for a low buck rework.
So when you ask about cams there are many many more questions that should be asked.
Because we all know, , , , A little is never enough when for just a little more you can have a lot!
And I'm not talking a high horsepower machine. I'm thinking 100/100 and your ignition can and will support that and live!

Nancy and I were out looking at dirt today for that very reason.

And your not going to believe this.

But next week I'm taking off the D&D and putting the ProPipe back on.  (I think)

Twolanerider, the 95" kit should raise comp. ratio w/stock heads. MY neighbor went with 95" kit, s&s gear drive, 570 s&s cams and pc111. bike runs strong 85 hp 90 tq. over 10,000mi since work and no problems.

Agreed completely Chip.  And if I bite the bullet and do more than just a set of cams the choice is relatively comfortably already in hand.  I've ridden a 95 that had this package from Dave Mackie:  http://www.davemackie.com/twincam.asp

Everyone's riding styles vary of course.  But relative to how I enjoy riding and cruising it was an excellent ride.

The cam from that package is an early contender in my cam choice quest if I decide to touch up the heads too.  According to published specs need a bit more spring than stock though.  Just haven't decided yet how far I want to take it.

With the local tuner I've got decent ideas about how far the Marelli system can go.  So we know what our foundations are there.  The rest is as you say, just how much fun want to have with it or how simple I wish to keep it.  Still just haven't made my mind up there yet.

Thanks GR.  The bike is a 95 to begin with in this case.  Just trying to decide how or if it gets tweaked this winter.

You already know the answer to this my friend, but I will post this as a reminder to you and maybe as new info to others
