BUB7 true duals on FLHTCUSE3
« on: July 06, 2008, 11:59:54 AM »

Just put Bub7 true duals on '08 FLHTCUSE3.  Had stage 1 download already (as I was told) and put on SEAC.  Bike sounds great, seems to run much cooler.  Performance seems solid; however, question is should I put SERT on bike, other, dyno etc.?  Seem to be hearing mixed opinions on this...

Do you have a part number or something to verify this?

I just rechecked the 08 screaming eagle catalog and did not see any downloads for this, and rather than see you run your bike to lean since it was lean before you started and you just added an open air cleaner you want to be sure something was done to account for the added air you just pushed into the bike.

I am not saying there isn't one, cause if I did there would most assuredly be one, but not one I am aware of as things can change just rather see you be safe than sorry.  My understanding was the only way to change the factory tune was if you had an early 110 they put out an updated ECM load, but this was not a stage 1 load it jsut made the bikes a bit richer.   Harley did add 2 new maps in the SERT 4.77 version for the 110's.

The Bubs look great on your bike. How do they sound and what baffle did you use?

Local HD service manager said bike already had a stage 1 download, is why I just went with SEAC.  Is there another way to verify if it does indeed have stage 1?  If it does have this, should I have it race tuned or would I not notice any real difference.  Concerned about running to lean...

Bike sounds awesome...  Barks if you jump on it; however, at cruising speed, can still hear radio and passenger.  Not sure on baffle, is what HD dealer had in stock.

If he the Service Manager says it has it make him prove.   Have him give you the part number for it.   My recollection is there is no such animal for the 110 other than the base map for 110's and the maps in the Race Tuner.   Even with a Race Tuner you will need a dyno tune with the open air cleaner.

When I put my mufflers on my 08, I asked the Tech. if I should get a download done to the bike and he told me that there was none available.

I have been told by a number of dealership service managers that there aren't any canned (e.g., stage 1) downloads for the '08s like there used to be for the other years.  The only way you can put a different map into the ECM now is to go with the SERT.  Or get a PCIII or similar device that by-passes the ECM.  The ECM will adjust your AFR somewhat, but probably not enough to make up for the SEAC and the free-flowing exhaust that you put on.

Not a mechanic, but doesn't the oxygen sensors provide feedback to maintain the air fuel ratio to the correct setting? If that's the case you wouldn't need to modify the ECM unless you wanted to modify the ratio.

Sid,
These are narrow band not wide band and do not really modify within that much of a range.  They do nothing after so much rpm or so much throttle position.  They are really there for cruise and idle.  If you were to only put on pipes you would probably be ok in most circumstances.   These bikes are lean to begin with then you add that extra air and then its really lean.  I wouldn't do that my bike.

The best I have heard is 14.1 to 14.2 on the A/F by setting the closed loop bias tables in the SERT, so the bikes are even leaner than that when they come to you from the factory.  That is why so many invested in the Night Rider items to try and get the mixture down even further or have gone to wide band alternatives / ECM's  or an all out tune by SERT / Power Commander.

Dealers do sell caned maps for the 110's .. I would'nt waste the $$ for it though. Spend a couple hunderd more and get the SERT.

Sporty,

The only canned map that I am aware of is, if you go from a 96" or 103" to a 110 they have a download that they put in from the Digital Tech which is the same map that is loaded on the 08's today.   It enables the compression releases and it puts the stock map in the bike.   If you know of another one that is a available please try and find the part number for it I know myself and may others would really appreciate the information.   The only other way to add a canned map would be via a SERT / Super Tuner / PC~III.   Many people on this site would love to see a stage 1 download, but as I said early I am not aware of any and had heard HD did away with them (excuse) epa reasons.

This is 100% correct and accurate information !!!!  :2vrolijk_21: You MUST re-map the bike if you intend on retaining that exhaust and air cleaner. Otherwise, you will be dangerously lean. I would get the SERT and have the bike dyno tuned. They will provide you with a copy of the results after the map has been created that tells you torque, HP, and most importantly AIR FUEL RATIO. Good Luck  :2vrolijk_21:
