I was getting 40 mpg running 80-85. I took it to the dealer for warrenty work. Replaced aircleaner housing and filter (cracked and fell off) with high flow Harley part. Milage immediately dropped to 34-36. I just completed and 3,000 mile run, this milage remained down the whole trip, despite slowing my speeds way down to compensate. The dealership swears they didn't touch anything else, no reflash, etc. I've ordered a 2nd replacement K&N to get back where I was pre-dealership intervention.

Averaged 38 running 70+ over 2,400 miles with lots of mountain twisties at 30 mph, and I mean hours worth plus huge elevatioon changes. High was 46.

The Road Glide had some interesting variations on the Maggie Valley trip.

Around home local riding, 40-42.
Interstate normal, 38-40
Interstate pulling the trailer, 30-32
Up in the mountains, no trailer, 47-49

Was getting 25 pulling the trailer, after I changed plugs to the Diamond Fire E3's in MV that increased to almost 30 on the return trip.

Interesting.  I and the guys I ride with always seem to get better MPG in the mountains.  Don't understand it.....unless it has something to do w/ the fuel injection leaning out or something.  Doesn't make sense.   :nixweiss: spyder

Howie, everything else was the same. Mark (bananman) told me about them and he experienced about the same improvement when he switched to them.

we did pretty well on the MV trip as far as gas milage.... Close to 40 mpg average.   bike ran well to considering there was no premium around. We did use the octane booster and never noticed any difference, which was very surprising. Thanks for having us,  it was great meeting you all.

That's great to hear.......since I've got the same bike as you and I was wondering how it would do w/ the booster and reg. gas.  :2vrolijk_21:  spyder

never missed a beat. Almost sad that the trip had to come to an end. The bike ran really great and the scenery was fantastic. We don't get to do that kind of riding down here, so it's fun when we get the chance. Can't wait to do it again.  Maybe later on in the fall.

I see the same thing Spyder.  On any fuel injected bike I've had.  In the Rockies or back east.  The effect starts dissipating above 6500 or so.  It's rare we've to have extended stretches above that altitute in the lower 48 anyway.  But between about 3000 and 6500 the bikes just purr and start sipping fuel less and less.  Gotta love it.

Amen Spyder.  My geographic location might not offer more than being a place to get anywhere from.  But I can do that.  Can wake up early one morning and be in most of the eastern mountains that night, the same for a good piece of the Rockies and all of those hills they call the Boston Mountains or Ozarks more locally.  Makes for nice weekenders sometimes :2vrolijk_21: .
