Replacement slip-on mufflers for xl883l
« on: July 14, 2008, 12:18:46 PM »

Looking for good info for slip-on mufflers for my XL883L Sportster. Good sound but not overly loud, just looking to get that good Harley sound verses the stock OEM. Wasn't sure to buy Screamin Eagle or an aftermarket mufflers. I know the different brands names but looking for info from riders who have heard or have a certain brand that they are using, that they like or not and for what reasons.
Wife rides the 883 and since Ive put the V&H on my roadking, now she doesn't like the sound of hers.  :huepfenlol2:
and I'm looking for new mufflers for the sportster.

  Thanks,
Beeperman

Can't speak for slips on my 883, but I can tell you that V&H Short Shots did a great job of waking up the anemic little beast.........and they look so much better.

I would not recommend Screamin Eagle slip ons.  I put a set on the wife's xl1200l and it improved the sound and performance, but not much.  You'll do better with aftermarket stuff, probably V&H for a sporty.

Go with Rush Products, Great quality, Looks and Sound. Deep Harley rumble not overly loud or tinny sounding. You will not be disappointed :2vrolijk_21:

My wife has an 883 and we are thinking the same thing.  Also, you need to hear the motor better when shifting without a tach.  We don't want to spend a lot of money on a bike that's worth less than $6k.  Will Dyna pipes fit the Sporty also?  It certainly opens up some other options when looking into after market slip ons.

Just checked out Rush`s website, they have a new set of slip-ons for the new 08 sportsters with the changeable baffles to get the sound your looking for. The place where I order some parts from, is suppose to have them in stock later this week and then will be able to quote me a price.

Called rush and was advised on local dealers in my area. Unable to buy direct I guess. None of the local dealers have them in stock. Wife can wait a few weeks, I have to put her forward controls on this weekend.

    Thanks,

YEP, gotta keep wife happy but I'm riding her bike some. I bought this bike for her a couple of months ago for her because she said she no longer wanted to be a passanger but wanted to ride with me. Two days after buying her bike, she was in the grass and was looking down at the mid controls. She layed the bike down in the grass (5mph) but her leg twisted backwards and broke her leg, stretched tendons along with a few other bumps and bruises. No need to say she hasn't been able to ride and now I'm putting forward controls on and other accessories.

 Gotta keep wife happy

Have a question, installing a set of rush mufflers on my sportster while using the stock pipes. Do I need to install larger air breather and new fuel pack. I know the sportster runs a little lean from factory. I'm not the type to cut corners to save $ and does what needs to be done properly. This is my first experience with the sportster.

Thanks,

Beeperman,

What year and assuming EFI ? Installing slip on's without a high flow air cleaner and a fuel management (SERT,PC) You are just going to make more noise. And possibly create an even more lean condition.
This Harley game we all play, There is one way of doing things and that would be the right way. Go ahead and do it right with all three. Slip on's, High flow, Fuel mangement system. And enjoy the ride  :orange:
