Hmmmm.....  Gary's screen name is fired00d & his car is red and says stuff about the Fire Dept.

Hmmmmm.........  I bet he has something or other to do with the fire dept.

And all this time I thought you were a moderating male thong model, d00d?  The things I learn when I read here never cease to amaze me.

 :huepfenlol2:

I thought he was a search engine.

I've noticed how quickly he responds to and puts out little fires here on the site  :sauer005: before they get too large.  :smilie_eimer: har!  :drink: spyder

Somehow Gary, a Prius with strobes and a siren just doesn't seem to hack it for a piece of fire equipment.  But you do get great gas mileage and you don't have to worry about not having enough battery power to run the strobes for a long time when you're stopped.   :P ::) :huepfenlol2:

It's not bad for a staff (personell transport) vehicle, and I was actually surprised at the power. I've responded to calls with it and it doesn't do bad at all.

My wife has a Prius as her everyday, commuter car...it does drive really well and the electric motor has boat-loads of torque.  Plus the 55+mpg that she gets isn't too shabby either.  She has just over 100K on it and has had it for about 4 years, and it still runs like the day we bought it.

There will probably be more and more use of hybrid's as staff vehicles at our department. Our Chief has a Escape Hybrid, and Deputy Chief is getting a Flex Fuel Durango. Fuel economy has become a big priority in budgets lately.

I know it's become a big priority in our budget.  I feel like I have to take a loan out every time I fill up the diesel pickup.  :-\

I was wondering about the reliability of it with regard to using it for a public service (especially fire) vehicle.  I guess your post answers that.

Well I shelved the Powerstroke today.
Fantastic truck that can pull anything but 60 to 90 cent a gallon difference is hard to justify.
Have three F150's with 6's that have been sitting waiting for the economy to pick up so I can rehire some help.
They get about 18 or 19 MPG so it's better than the Powerstroke. Based on the 70 to 80 gallons I burn a week the difference in diesel and gas is worth using the F-150. They sure do make a "U" turn easier. They are base trucks with no frills. Scooters are next!

I read an article about a guy up in Vancouver, BC that used a 1st-gen Prius as a taxi.  He put over 350K on it in just over 3 years.  Toyota bought it back from him to study it after they gave him a new 2nd-Gen Prius to continue using as a taxi.  Haven't heard anything on how he's fared with that one.

I hear ya Chip.  If it wasn't for the 5th wheel, I'd probably shelve the Dodge too.  May still do that, as we haven't been pulling the trailer much lately either.   :-\  Just too damned expensive.
