A few 110s have dropped valve guides.  Occasionally with disastrous results.  Unfortunately teh 110 has had so many issues that no one part fixes all of it.  But they have to start somewhere.

There's already been a rocker box change documented.  Maybe they're just starting at the top and working their way downhill.

You would think that Harley's technical writers would be a little more precise with their prose.  What I'm talking about is the use of "cam lift" where you would expect to see "valve lift".  Unless you're running 1:1 rockers, those two things are not the same.

Don,

I think I missed this one.  Where can I get a copy of said document?

The valve lift is the correct way to say it..... But all cams are spec'd with lift for an assumed specific application, i.e. TC etc where stock rocker ratios are known and very seldom changed; unlike a Chevy sb with 1.6 or 1.7 ratios.  In the TC bike specific application the cam lift is stated as cam lift but this lift is actually valve lift or opening as you've said.

I'm not sure what the ratio is on a TC and I'm not sure if you can buy aftermarket high ratio lift rockers; I haven't looked.

Dan, the information I've seen is that stock is 1.625:1 and I've seen rockers from Jims and S&S at 1.745:1.  Wouldn't be surprised if there aren't other variations out there as well.

The reason I mentioned the use of "cam lift" in my original post was the fact that it was highlighted in red in the tech tip.  Later there is mention made of "valve lift" in that same tech tip, so it makes you wonder if someone was trying to differentiate when writing that document, or if they don't understand the difference and are using the terms interchangeably. :confused5:  IMHO, it is best to be as unambiguous (and simple) as possible when sending technical information to your average H-D dealership.

Jerry, you're absolutely right; short sweet and to the point...  Too bad I don't take my own advice. ;D ;D ;D

When you read Jeg's or Summit cam specs they all use the term "lift" for all their cam specs.  They also assume that the person buying the cam for a specific application and is using stock components for that application, rocker ratio wise.

Too bad there can't just be terms that apply across the board.

New cylinder head for the 110's

When I decided to get new cams for my 110 last year the boys at Headquarters wouldn't even install their cams if I didn't go with their heads. Pretty bad when a year ago the independants already have the problem addressed. THE MUFFMAN

Not to nit pick, but I've done a bit of technical writing and I would have labelled the valve guide picts as viewed thru the exhaust port #5 as previous (or original), and the other #6 as "updated", NOT previous and "current"

Speaking of correct, and correct me if I'm wrong, but are the heads actually new or are they they the same old heads with updated (new) valve guides? Or did I miss something here?
