Mike, the fact that the MoCo changed the spec on allowable runout of the pinion shaft to approximately 5 times the old figure may have something to do with that low failure rate; if it's in spec, it doesn't count as a failure.  As you say, time will tell.  I will be very surprised if we don't see a lot of oil pumps worn out prematurely.

Jerry

Jerry - You know way more about this stuff than me - agree with you on the oil pumps since that's the part that will get whacked.  High mileage CVOs (at the rate I am going I will be one of them) will be an indicator & one safe bet is they figure the AVERAGE rider won't put 15-20k a year or so on a CVO.  Those of us who do are the guinea pigs & except for the engines they used for testing (?? guess??) nobody knows what 100k looks like on a 110 yet.  Wonder if they still road test for real mileages or use computer simulators plus road tests?

Have worked for companies that "widen" specs to fit production inequities & almost every time it comes back to bite them in the ass - hard.   Rare to see an exception to that one.

Thanks Mike. Like I said earlier they were doing different downloads for different parts of the country. If the letter from down your way says cylinders then that would confirm what I had on my mind!

THE DAWG

Makes sense to me Dawg.

Also, as I recall, most of the 07's delivered were "early" production dates (06 due to York strike in part) at that dealer, and that could have some bearing on this as well.

When I get my hands on it again will try to identify the doc as a bulletin, memo, etc.  When I saw it I did not have a lot of time to read it (I was in the middle of something else) & wish I could have copied it.

Regardless, I hope the MoCo knows we want this fixed so we can start biatchin' about something else.  This one has been going on WAY too long & if this were a large production number car instead of a limited production CVO, the press would be scaldin' their azzes.

"There are one or more open safety recalls or product improvement campaigns on your vehicle. The following list contains the campaign number and a brief description:
Product Notice: 0906: PRD PGM:07/08 CVO 110 GASKETS"

This is the code that came up when I put my VIN in. I guess they don't know about my own "product improvement campaign" yet! ;)

Hoist! 8)
Where is the option to enter the VIN for recalls/improvement campaigns?

All of these changes are already present on the 2009's.

Will this fix work on the 2009's?

The 2009's will have different sets of problems, if past history is any indicator, and on "new" models from HD, it's a darn good indicator.

Wonder if we should start a "Guess what the problems on 2009 CVO's will be" thread?

I put my v.i.n. in and got this:  Product Notice: 0905: PRD PGM: 07/08 CVO 110 HEADS

Anybody know what this is about?  It's dated July 2008.  Does this have to do with the recall letter we will get next month?  Valve guides and ACR's maybe? :nixweiss:

Al of the above plus head gaskets & heads & crankshaft nut as best I can tell.

Letter is supposed to be mailed in August.   I can hardly wait.

Yep, me either.  However, I'm not sure I want to be the first in line....maybe let them do a few so they know for sure what they are doing and that it all really works.

I am probably most excited about the prospect of not having the top-end noise.  While they are in there I am going to make sure they check the lifter clearance and check to see if the valve spring (or whatever) is hitting the rocker box.

If and when the fix finally gets to the dealer, I'm really considering having the fins on the cylinders diamond cut while the bike is down. Maybe they will offer new ones to those in the south and I can those cut without loosing any more down time than I have to. Wishful thinking though.
