If there was in fact a change to the design there would be a change to the part number, most likely the letter suffix on the end.  However, if they are treating this as a vendor quality issue then the part number would not normally be changed.  Then you would have to look for a casting date on the actual parts and have access to the suspect date listing, ie. parts cast from xx/xx/xxxx thru x/xx/xxxx.  Much tougher than a part number change.

How soon will the supplemental parts book be available? That's where you'd find the definitive answer.

Does anyone know if the cylinders of the '09s have a new part number?  Is it possible the cylinders have been upgraded, but the part number unchanged?   :nixweiss:

Don't forget the part number will be different because 07s were black, 08s were silvery whatever, 09s ?

I wonder if there will be a surcharge for the dopes to scratch your paint doing the mods?

I believe the color for the new 08/09 engines is called Slate.

They call it a "Granite Powertrain" in the brochure.  That's got to be a color reference, since we already know the powertrain isn't as solid as granite.

Jerry, maybe they're talking about how solid it locks up after failure?

Wow,

Kind of looks like the plan all along.  Hopefully, these 110's are now set.

Either they are set, or the granite refers to the rockheads that allowed this 110 to go on in production as long as it did, knowing they were producing leakers.

I went by the local HD store this morning and while I was there I went back to the service department.  I thought I would see what the service writer knew about the "110 Fix".  He acted very surprised that I even knew about it already.  He said it will still be a couple of weeks before they get all the parts needed.

During the conversation I mentioned all the components that are being replaced.  He said that the heads will only be replaced if the valves are burnt.  I don't know how much he really knows about it all.  He is also pretty short on customer relations skills, which is, in part, why I don't use their service department any more.

Would check with the service manager there.  Doubt that service writer had seen the memo, from that comment.

Well like I said, I will be taking my bike to another dealer for the work... I just wanted to see what the local dealer knows about the 110 fix, since I was there anyway.  It will be worth it to me to make the 1.5 hour trip, if someone that knows what they are doing is working on it.
And, not only that, I still like getting kissed when I get screwed.  If I am going to deal with a HD Service Department, they can at least act like they appreciate my business and are interested in me coming back.
