Probably find that they depreciated more too with the 110 engines....................................

it is only money.........cannot take it with you

Has anyone had an explanation on why the Road King, Dyna, and Springer don't get the heads?  My dealer indicates that they don't have a clue as the bikes have the same engine.  I think that the non-Ultra folks are getting short changed on this "fix" and I'm going to hold off on the "fix" on my 110 to see if the MOCO sees the error of their ways.

We paid more money for our bikes..........................

The easy answer is that there have been fewer problems on those bikes and they felt they could live through it without replacing all of the heads.

They're not replacing the heads on the Ultras because they want to, it's because they have too. If you drop a valve guide like ultrafxr, it cost them a new motor. Heads are cheaper than new motors. They're taking the low cost route by only replacing heads, not whole motors.

Oh, I understand that they are doing what limits their cost, but they're still not doing what is right.  If there are 110 engine problems, then they've got 'em on all the 110 engines and they should fix them all!

I guess it depends on how you define 'problems'. It would be fair to say our definition is much different than that of the MoCo.  ;)

They aren't doing any of this because it's the right thing to do, they're doing it to limit their liability.  After two years of denials and cover-ups, suddenly they announce a "Product Upgrade" program and try to make it sound like they woke up one day and decided to "upgrade" all the 110's to the latest production standards to show their love and loyalty to their customers.  Bull chit!  They realized they were in for lawsuits up the wahzoo and decided this program was by far the cheapest way out, with a side benefit of having some owners actually fall for the BS and think the MoCo is now the greatest thing since sex.  If this was about doing the right thing by their customers, they should also be taking measures to do something about the flexible cranks.  Notice how there is no mention of the crank whatsoever?  Too damned expensive messing with those.

You all need to remember all the dirty dealing next time you get the urge to buy a new motorcycle.  All the bitching on all the motorcycle forums in the world won't do one single thing to improve the situation as long as hundreds of thousands go out and keep buying one every year.  Only when the fat profits disappear will you see any significant change in the way they do business.  In the meantime, get used to more electrical and fuel system failures due to the "cheapest possible source" syndrome.  Sure hope they didn't buy their ABS stuff from China too. :o

Jerry is right. They have to something, even if it is wrong! Have you noticed how many 08 CVO's are still sitting on the showroom floor? I can tell you that they are out there. There once was a time when you had to wait in line to buy a CVO. Not anymore. Higher production numbers and poor quality in Harley's Flagship have left a sour taste in a lot of peoples mouths.

My guess with the head replacement is that there is more heat and stress on the motor in the Ultras then in the other models. The HD engineers think they can get away with new guides and acr's. Will this work on the other models? TIME WILL TELL!!!!!

Somebody that knows how to write - post a letter - and let's get it on! I'll send one. I've got 40k in my bike with everything and have purchased many over the years. I love my SERK but I'll buy a BMW next time if HD continues to put out untested stuff and then refuses to fix it properly.

Let's do the letter thing!

It doesn't have to be a negative rant - just a message noting the facts and what we would like to see corrected. The more of us that let HD know - the better the chance we have to correct things. In lieu of a direct letter post on the forum - if someone has a web site post it there and then we can copy and tailor it. I just think we sit around and complain on this site and on many others - but little action is actually taken - and then (of course) nothing changes. So what do we do? Go back and just keep complaining on the various digests/forums.

Writing a letter - reasonably worded & clearly outlining the situation would be the best way to proceed.  A screed slamming & damning stuff goes into File 13 and is not taken seriously by anyone - not just HD.

The time frame for this proposed letter is not so good - the MoCo has only recently announced what they plan to do & it applies to all the 110's produced prior to April 08.  Any response to such a letter now would elicit a response from the MoCo that these problems are being addressed by the current "fix".  No failures from this new "fix" have been reported, again due to the time frame we are currently in.

People that are upset about the details of the proposed fix are certainly within their rights to complain, but doubt it would get anywhere currently.  In the past these complaints are what generated the response from the MoCo, however.
