I went looking for my vin and other stuff and found my extended warranty stuff among other things it says:
Expense reimbursement pacage:
*rental reimbursement: when a BREAKDOWN makes your motorcycle inoperative or unsafe to drive and your motorcycle must remain in the shop overnight, we will reimburse you for rental vehicle charges. The limit to this reimbursement per claim is seven hundred and fifty dollars not to exceed seventy five per 24- hour period. You must incurs this expense between the date of the BREAKDOWN and date on which covered repairs are completed. you must rent the substitute vehicle from a licensed agency.

BREAKDOWN is defined as: the failure of a COVERED part to perform that function for which it was designed due to defects in material or faulty workmanship in its manufacturing.

Wonder since I have just the one bike right now if I can rent a bike while they do the repairs to my 08 SERK???     OK it doesn't hurt to dream here and there.....

I've rented Harleys in a few states and it is at least $100/day.

as in "new heads"??   :nixweiss:

Yeah, heads with cylinders is my understanding.  Had 1 rebuild & looks like I get another.  Figure rings also but no pistons.

Cylinders / rings should be in the kit.  In the engineering department, still fully located in the little wooden shack on Juneau avenue, located just across the street from the multi acre HD Motorclothes R&D facility,
What is HD saying or aluding to as being the culprit here?
Head Gaskets?
Among the given lean, heat, etc. isn't it the Cylinder /Liner issue behind it all? Other than the ACR, crank nut (what)

I read the memo but do not recall all the reasons given for each part.

Cylinder slip is well documented (mine slipped front & rear) & thats why they will address that issue.  Not sure why some are claiming this is not in the memo - saw it with my own eyes "cylinders". To me that means heads & rings also (kit like the last one on mine). Will be waiting to get the letter like everyone else.

ACR failures evidently were to the point they decided to go ahead with this one - mine had not failed so when mine was rebuilt I did not get new ones.  Valve guides appear to be another issue & figure that MAY be why I will get new cylinders again but will check to make sure.  The crankshaft nut is one I would like to get more info on, since the crank runout, of all the potential problems, is the one that troubles me the most.

Had a conversation with someone about "misinformation" on this issue (they nailed it) & am doing my best to relay what I saw.  Wish my memory was better (dates on memo).  The misinfo gets folks riled up & some were expecting other stuff - frankly this is about what I expected all along, except for the ACR's & that crank nut. Never figured the MoCo would spring for new motors & based on past recalls - replacing parts with an unacceptable failure rate is what you get.

Thanks, Iski.  I like your version.  I hope that the cylinders have a revised part number or are we just resetting the clock or odometer?

Great question, Skeminegul.  Would hope that regardless of part number, the specs were changed on the cylinders/heads/bonding agents involved for all replacement parts.

Dealer did not want to replace head gaskets only when mine were replaced - discussed that option with them.  Obviously a cylinder slip problem since after all, that is what has occurred on many.

Could not help but grin when I read threads (here & there & around) about getting a JIMS 120 as a replacement engine for this "fix."  Makes me glad I no longer work with the general public, considering expectations these days.   ;)

Well I had my cylinders replaced because the oil leak burned off the powder coating. Touch up paint from the Moco looked like chit so my local dealer replaced both cylinders and did all the things this SB is stating now. 8)

I guess I'm not sure what you mean?  High expectations for a fix are only warranted after high expectaions that a 30K motorcycle doesn't need to be replaced piece by piece every year causing downtime.

I hope it was AFTER the new parts were available......

It was in May 08. Running stronger now. I guess if I get a letter I will let them rip it apart again.
