Hi Ace.  Bet you're like me and damned tired of hearing this kind of bs about internet rumors.  Only problem (for the moco) is that these 'rumors' about the 110s are 100% true.  I do agree that if you're not having problems, just ride it and enjoy it.  Like you and GH I was really bummed about tearing into the top end of my motor but after having this done twice, new starter & ACRs and finally a new motor I guess I'm over it.  Bike has 37k on the clock now and while extremely clean and no dents or dings it does show some very, very slight signs of age and use.  If you ride 'em you can't keep 'em showroom perfect.  I want a bike to ride, not to sit in the garage and admire.  Have a friend with several very expensive classic cars and he gets no enjoyment at all from them.  Keeps them in a garage with dust covers on them waiting for them to appreciate in value.

Absolutely-ride it if its not broke and thats what I plan to do but its like a specter hanging over my bike now. I'll get over it and if I make it till end of season here I'l get it done then over the winter. I would never buy a bike just to look at it and not ride it. With you 100% on that.

I like to think of the fix as a way to get a free new top end for our motorcycles. Put as many miles on the bike as you can this summer and at the end of the season have the work done. You then start next year with a new top end on your motorcycle.

Get out there and ride, pile on those miles, and this fall your get your top end rebuilt on HD. Just find a shop with a good mechanic who takes pride in his work.

And there is the tricky part....I have yet to find one :(  When I take mine in for "The Fix" I think I am going to take it to a dealer in Tulsa - an hour and a half away, because I don't have any confidence in the two dealers close to me.

Just for curiosity's sake is it Rt. 66 or Myers-Duren that inspires the greater confidence in Tulsa?

Rebel, no one I know locally hauls their bike to Tulsa for repair.  Though I know a couple who have gone to Rt66 for dyno tuning rather than trust themelves to local efforts.  So unfortunatley no, I don't have an informed answer to share.

Do have a friend who lives in Skiatook and doesn't do his own work.  So he must use one or the other.  I'll call him tomorrow and see what his experiences have been over the years.

Screw tomorrow.  He's a bit of a night owl so on the phone right now catching up a bit.

On the dealer question he says tuning at Rt66 or even better at an indie called Twister City.  If doing in warranty engine work where you want a dealer to do he says the better option now is Rt66.  Both shops ok folks to work with.  M-D and Rt66 have been satisfactory for him for all other general repairs and maintenance.

THANKYOUVERYMUCH!!   I will probably go to Rt. 66 based on this recommendation.

I may be in Tulsa on August 2nd.  I'll stop by and talk with them about the recall repairs and try to get some info on when they will start doing the MoCo fix on the 110's so I can report to all the 110 owners here.

I have heard of Twister City and heard that they are probably the best place to have a bike dyno tuned in this area.

No Cylinnders in this "new" fix.

Apologies to the board for the incorrect info I posted earlier in this thread.  Heads with new valve guides, ACRs, crankshaft nut (holds the halves together), and head gaskets - that's it.

When my bike was fixed the service mgr. decided to replace the cylinders since they had slipped - logical IMHO.  But that is not a part of this new "fix" from HD & for those with cylinders who have slipped - so  I just dunno?  If it were me, I would biatch about it.  Sticking a spiffy new head gasket on this slip just band aids a real issue & if mine were slipped again, I would not be pleased to settle for gaskets only.

After looking at the info originally I had looked back at a parts list & saw cylinders listed & got that info mixed in with the other info - my bad.

Am thinking about several other things to do when I get this recall installed - cams, etc.  Will go back & re-read some threads.  Could care less about a racer - just want a bike that runs damn quick & is  ....... bulletproof.  Yeah, bulletproof.  Not in any hurry on this.

Also learned that some dealers have requested an extension to the original warranty on these same group of 110's - stated their case to the MoCo.  All 2007s & 2008s until April build date.  No idea if the MoCo will do this, but it would make up for some of the hassle if they did.  Another year or more on the engine - specific to this problem & the crank issues would be a smart thing to do if they want to rebuild some goodwill.

This is EXACTLY the strategy I want to follow.  I have 40K on my scoot and want to try to figure out what else to do to improve the reliability of the engine.

I'll be monitoring the site for the next few weeks to work on my "punch list"

Could not have said it better. After looking at the SERG3 and adding up the parts it would take to make it a road worthy traveler, I'm leaning towards holding off. With that said, maybe Harry (Unbalanced) or someone else could chime in on what HD parts should be looked at?

AJ,

My take on this is if you have/had the leak and they already have the heads off, why wouldnt you put on new cylinders, new rings, the new heads, new gaskets, and  new retainers.   By leaving the cylinders there you leave the chance that you have a good or bad se.  I would rather have the piece of mind long term that I didnt go about getting it fixed again in a half a$$ manner.

If your not replacing from the case up, you may only be looking to slap yourself on the back of the head later and give a Homer Simpson DOHHHHH.   I think if you push the issue with the dealer you shouldnt have to much trouble getting the dealers to swap them out or having the dealer push the issue with the area rep or customer service.   Besides if you have the leak you obviously have stained juggs and who wants that :)

If it were me and I had exhausted getting dealer, area rep, and HD customer service to replace the cylinders and they flat out just refused to get you new cylinders, I would replace them on my own nickel for the piece of mind.    It will also depend on how long ago you got new cylinders if you are willing to take up that fight to begin with.   Mine were very early replacement and I would/will be pushing very hard to get new juggs.

Harry, Thanks for the reply. I had the cylinders replaced about 10k ago. Yes, it has leaked since but... (and everything after a "but" is BS) the liners did not move and it was decided to keep the ones I had rather than take a chance and replace them with ones that might slip. I will try again and see what they say. Being that I am not leaking right now, I am going to hold off as long as possible before doing the "fix / recall". I have not put on as many miles as I would have liked so far this Summer. However when I do have it done, I need to know what else should be done at the same time to save expense. Obviously I don't want them to have to go into the motor more than they have to.
Thanks, AJ
