Seat Security
« on: June 15, 2005, 10:55:59 AM »

I have seen many threads on this site concerning someone making off with a high end custom seat.  I hopefully will be putting my Corbin on in a few weeks, (assuming they get it right, see the topic on "Corbin seat issues").  I have been considering a few options.  If I put the locking bracket on the tourpack, it makes it very rough to reach the screw for the seat, and I am working on the premise that thieves want to get it and run in seconds, not minutes.  The other option when I don't have the tour pac on, is the quick release pin that you can order from any of the cycle rags.  It goes in where the screw would anchor, but in this case I would use the red Locktite  or JB Weld, to fix it in the threaded hole.  Then your seat tab slips over this pin, and you insert their stud that holds the seat in place.  I would substitute the stud with a small lock, only when parked, so there is no chance of the lock damaging paint.
With the cost of these custom seats, ($1500 in my case) a little security may go a long way.

Has anyone come up with other solutions? [smiley=confused5.gif]   If you have, how about sharing it with all of us. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Striker, I've been on this site for a couple years and I don't recall even one thread concerning someone taking a high end custom seat.  I tried search but still can't find anything.  Can you direct me to some of these threads on this site that you refer to?

Thanks a bunch!

The only thing I remember being posted concerning a theft in the past was TwoLane's tourpac.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  I think we discussed possible theft of other items including seats at that time.    spyder

I remember one thread that had about 5 posts on how to make the key work on the lock for the tourpak mount, I think someone in there talked about how he lost his tour pac in like 30 seconds, and someone else talking about how he could run down someone trying to run with his pizza box.  Probably using the term "bunch" is inaccurate, but the question is still out there.  Either way, it is a concern to me, if for no other reason, I attend several smaller rallys, that aren't really designer type.  So, the downside to that is I sometimes am in a campground, or at a hotel that may not lend itself to security, if you know what I mean.  I also am not of the mindset, that I would pop a cap on someone over trying to get something off my bike as some might suggest.  I would reserve that for someone putting their hands on me a little too aggressively.

Didn't mean to stir up an attitude, just asked a question.

Mr. Moderator (Fatboy), thank you for cleaning up the post, you can delete it if it seems to be aggravating some people.

Just felt it was something I wanted to question, that might have interest for most, rather than talk to a few people about some private get together. [smiley=bigok.gif]

Fatboy, there is a duplicate thread in the CVO General Discussion section of the board (Click Here) where your reply is still posted.

Striker, please hold it to one thread per topic so as to avoid this type of confusion.  Thanks!  Also, Spyder and JC were just asking for clarifcation of a point you made, so no need to take offense. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Hmmmmmm, that's interesting! I generally wear the same clothes for all rallys. Just depends on the temperature. Have I missed something? What does one wear to a designer rally?

And one last thing!

Fatboy a moderator?
Darn, he gets in as much trouble as me. I think the election was rigged!  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
I want a recount.  Fatboy, who did you pay off?
Did Naitram offer you the sign up bonus like the other moderators got?

Stryker......no offense and no aggravation.  I just didn't remember reading anything about seats being taken ( I do remember Twolane's Tour Pack being taken).  The way your post was written, I thought I was really falling down on the job here and wanted to know to what level to raise my personal concern for my seats.  Personally, I've never heard of anybody loosing a seat, here or other sites.  Not saying it hasn't happened and not saying you shouldn't take extra precautions......just my personal observation.

As a moderator......the longest one on this site, of the current moderators.......I try to read every single post just to stay aware.  Just wanted to be sure that I'm not asleep at the wheel here. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

As far as 103tHunDer removing a duplicated post........ you will notice that the moderators of this site will be doing a little more "moderating".  That is to say that we will be doing our part to ensure that this place stays user friendly, friendly, helpful and factual.......to stay the premier CVO web site on the net.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

OK, no sense beating a dead horse.  This site has been very helpful to me, since this is the first new ride I have purchased since '66.  I believe it was a Honda Hawk, sometimes I miss the simplicity of those days.  Ride it wide open so you don't get run over on the hwy.  speed limit was 55, gas was $0.29 a gal, and you only worried about the oil when it was low, us kids would never think of changing it, took the fun out of everything.
Where am I now?  Wondering if the bike will do 140, and if some low life is gonna try to borrow my seat.  Things have sure changed. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Hell Striker if your feeling old just think,

First gas I bought for my first car was 19 cents a gallon.
Now that's old!

And my first Harley ( a 73 sporty) was a whopping $900.00 bucks

HD2003,

Trust me...I'm not a Moderator. [smiley=shocked2.gif]

Instigator (at times) maybe..... [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I'd rather enjoy this site, have some fun and make a little mess(now and then) then have to stick around and clean it up if you get my drift............ [smiley=laugh.gif]
