As many of you know I've been in a search for new bars for my SERK. As you can see by the pic below at 6'4 250lbs I look like I'm riding a mini-bike and feel like I'm water skiing on this scoot. May have a long road trip in the near future and would like to put this behind me. Any help or suggestions appreciated?? Thanks

Howie

Howie,

Give the folks at Wild One a call and talk the whole thing through with them.  Get all your measurements before hand and be ready to discuss your riding habits, likes and dislikes with them.  Their customer service is very good and they should be able to get you dialed in pretty quickly.  I had tried several sets of bars (3 sets - all internally wired) on my Heritage before calling them and going through all the details.  They hit it on the head the very first time.  They even offered a free exchange if I wasn't happy with their selection.  Anyway, the WO bars put me in the perfect riding position and not once since then have my hands gone numb or elbow joint pain from improper positioning of my arms on the bike.

Did you talk with Wild 1. I called as I'm looking for some new bars for my SERK also. The guy at Wild 1's knew his stuff. He recommended the 10" apes or the 518 RKII bars to me. I haven't pulled the trigger yet on either. I think the apes feel good on a short hop but I'm not sure about distance. Still not an ape fan on just appearance. I'm 5'9' so my needs and yours are not the same. Just wondering what they told you.

Stay safe

Hi Jeff - sounds as if we had similar conversation with Wild 1. I haven't pulled the trigger myself due to my own challenges with my right arm. Gave part of it to Uncle Sam and while I'm leaning toward 10's I don't know if they will give my arm problems. I'm 6'4 and as I said I feel as if I'm being pulled behind a ski boat I lean so far forward. Very uncomfortable on the long haul. Unless I find a "better" solution as it looks now it will be 10" Wild 1's.

Wish I could be of more help.

For me, the 518 RKII's are the bomb.  Tried the 10" Apes, but my hands kept going to sleep.  For me, the 12" Apes would have been better in all fairness.  The 518 RKII's are the most comfortable handlebars that I have ever used.  Of course, everyone is different.  Give the guy a call back at Wild One and make sure you give him every critical measurement (i.e. arm length, torso length, shoulder width, shoulder to hip, etc.)  You'd be amazed how different many peoples arm lengths are when each person has the same height.

on my FLHRSE4, I put on WO 572s, the 14 inch Wild 1 Chubbys. I've been on several 200 mile trips since and I'm very glad I had these put on. Make sure you have your king sized windshield on the bike at the time they torque down the bars. I set my bars about 1 inch from the windshield and it's perfect for me. The first time I rode the bike with the new bars on the interstate going 80 MPH I didn't have a windshield. I felt disappointed. The stock bars counter balance the wind as it hits your upper body where the Chubbys make you sit more straight up (which they are designed to do) so when the wind hit me it tended to push my head and upper body back but pull me forward on the seat somewhat. When I put the windshield on and went on the interstate it was a great ride, no problems, and has been ever since. No more achy back and arms.

Looks good Rheiner!  :2vrolijk_21: Do the bars follow the line from the forks? How tall are you and do you have any idea what your arm length is? At 6'4 I am concerned that height may pullback too far!?

The bars are not in line with the fork, slightly pushed forward. I'm 5'11". I don't know my arm length but i wear a 35 inch long sleve shirt.

Hey Rheiner<

Another Newbie here, great forum!   Tired of lurking. Nice bars. Whose saddle is that?  Looks passenger friendly, if you know what I mean! :bananarock:

it's the HD Sundowner saddle. Not as pretty as the stock seat but very comfortable, especially for the passenger.
