I am breaking in a new Road King SE with approximately 500 miles. I have installed Rinhehart true duels, SE Heavy Breather kit, and Power Commander III. The bike has been dyno-tuned at Carl's Speed Shop in Daytona and runs and sounds great - except at idle. The bike at idle (within a minute) starts to "putt putt" firing primarily on the front cylinder. I realize Harley has a designed programmed ECM feature to prevent the bike from overheating at prolonged idle but my mechanic (formerly a 7 year HD dealership service manager) used an IR thermometer and measured the rear cylinder temperature range at 262 degrees.
Any ideas?? Might the problem be associated with this particular brand or model EFI Tuner??
You may want to go back to the Dyno shop and ask them to richen up your idle.
After we finished my tune, it took 15 different downloads (super sert) till we got it right on.
If you richen idle (between 13-1 13-6) and adjust ve tables, the bike will run better and much cooler.
My 08 seuc sat in park way traffic yesterday 88 degree plus day, never even thought of going into overheat mode.
Legs where not burning off either, hot yes, but not burning.
And I dont have those stupid heat shields, that help keep heat off you, and on the motor.
JMHO, hope it helps.
