We went to a Crosby Stills and Nash concert last night at the Botanic Garden Summer Concert Series. A series of open air concerts given by groups and solo performers from the 60's and 70's for old folks, you take a blanket or lawn chairs and a picnic basket filled with wine and munchies. Absolutely incredible is the only way I can describe CS&N. I was not too excited to hear the trio in their late 60's have surrogate young singers do the singing while the old guys stand there and collect the $$$ as some of the others have done like The 4 Seasons but I couldn't have been more wrong as they did it all themselves, in a little lower key like a fine wine they have only improved with age. Still the great harmony and as musicians, they are the best I ever seen. Stills and Nash were great musicians when I saw them with Buffalo Springfield over 40 years ago, now they have mellowed a bit but their guitars have become filled with heart and soul that can only be developed from having held them continuously for a half a century.
If you have seen your 50th birthday you have got to catch their summer tour.
Before you go, hit your kids up for some smoke and roll yourself one for the concert. It will instantly transport you back to your 18 year old days (and will make you sleep until 11:00 the next morning). It is one of those last chance experiences that truly lives up to your memory.
